Parenting without causing item to move/rescale/rotate/transform?

Another carryover expectation from Poser, where I can parent one object to another, and the parented object stays in place, but its parameters change relative to its parent. In D|S, the parameters all stay intact and the parented object moves/rotates/rescales to match the parent, which I REALLY don't want. Is there a way to do it the Poser way? I'd much rather be able to adjust an object as I need it, then parent it so it stays in that relative position, than to parent it first and then hunt it down.

Right click (in Windows) on the object you want to change and select 'Change "???" parent', then make sure you tick 'Parent in place' in the bottom left of the new selection panel.

    Fantastic! Thanks!

EDIT: I see also that once I click that on, it appears to become the default. Excellent :D

sadly figures parented to others transform into a mess if you alter the parent figure as I found, this is apparently a feature

I dislike it intensly other programs lack this feature cheeky
