Just trying this out for an alien landscape, straight from the box:

Is there anything I can do about the line or should I file a support ticket, as this looks wrong.

It could be an artefact from image compression - what are your render settings. if Iray particularly the conpression options in the Advanced tab.
Does this help?
Almost all of the images are going to be subjected to high compression, anything over 1,024 pixels square, Try (if your GPU will let you) raising that to 8,200, or even 16,400, and see if the aretefact goes away - if it does you can then try sepping back until you find the threshold value for the line to appear.
More info I never knew! Will this take the pixelation out of HDRIs?
I'm not sure if HDRIs get compressed - I'm pretty sure normal maps don't - but if they do it may help.
I’ll try it anyway. Maybe the HDRIs I have are too low res ( they were sold here, not freebies.) I’ll try that and also see if I can bump up the res of the HDRI itself in Photoshop. Freebies are often 16k but the ones sold here that I have are much smaller and get so pixelated!
Which ones? Some older sets, made for uberEnvironment, did tend to have low ress maps (there was often a hight res map for Carrara in those). They may have been updated (if my recollection is even correct) but it's something to check.
No, these are newer IRay ones. Not sure if I should mention the PAs. I tend to render at around 2400X1600 or higher... Not sure if that is too big for the HDRIs or what. I don’t often use DOF because I like sharper, more comic book looks and some, especially the night sky and sci-fi ones come out very pixelated.
I am having trouble with some HDRIs I bought for Iray as well coming out pixelated. I render in all sizes and no matter what I do they don't look as good as the promos.
An HDRI is a full 360° panorama. The narrower the FOV (field of view) of the camera, the smaller the part of the HDRI is visible. A normal lens has a focal length of 50 mm and this gives a horizontal angle of view of 40°. This is a 9th of the panorama's width and if the HDRI is 9000 pixels wide, the backdrop shows 1000 pixels of the image. If you render wider, the backdrop gets blurred or pixelated because there is not enough information in the image. If you use a wide angle lens of 21 mm, the horizontal angle of view is about 80° and 2000 pixels from a 9000 pixel wide HDRI are shown in the background. This is enough for a 2000 pixel wide render. If you use a portrait camera with a focal length of 100 mm, you get a horizontal angle of view of 20°, this is an 18th of the panorama width and with the 9000 pixel wide HDRI, only 500 pixels of it are in the background. Always consider the HDRI width, the focal length of the lens with the corresponding field of view and the width of your render. To get a sharp and clean backdrop from the HDRI is always a compromise.
OK tried again. Still looks like a line that should not be there.
In that case yes, I would suggest opening a support ticket.
Ticket submitted. Many thanks.
