Rectangular shadows on ground objects in IRay renders?

I run into this frequently: wherever a figure touches the floor object, in addition to the normal cast shadow, there is a rectangular 'box' shadow on the floor around the area where their body touches it, stretching in the direction of the lighting, almost like it's the shadow of the bounding box. Sometimes i can eliminate it by elevating the character just so their body doesn't quite touch the floor object. Any idea what this is or how to eliminate it?

Can you post a screen shot. Is your figure at zero on the Y translation point when rendering or is there a chance it is acidently below zero?
Sorry, took awhile to get back. I tried a test, which didn't come out quite as I described, but does show something of the situation. These images show the floor of the sauna replaced by a photobackdrop from another set, the setup as hidden line, then the same material on the actual floor of the sauna set, and hidden line image showing hte geometry. Both preview images use the same IRay materials and the same lights.
Here, it didn't seem to connect to the figure, but to the set pieces (I assume). In previous attempts, I've found that replacing the floor with a different, higher-resolution piece seems to help. Still, this shouldn't be doing this, right?
(totally aside, I'm surprised to see that choosing "Save last draw" only saves the constrained image from the NVidia preview, but the entire workplace window from the hidden line preview :o )
