I am a baby in terms of 3D experience compared to most of the stories I have read here. November 2017 I made my first 3D image in Daz with 3Delight because I had an AMD card. Once I read up on the difference in iRay and 3Delight and saw examples of the differences I sold my AMD card and got a 1080ti and was thoroughly engrossed in learning everything I could and working on renders. I loved drawing pictures from my favorite comic books as a kid and kept drawing until I got out of High School and then just stopped doing much of anything creative until I got into photography. Now I rarely do photography because I am so engrossed in 3D. I just think this is the perfect platform to kick off with at this time.
There was no one item/character/etc that sucked me in but I spent close to $500 the first month between DAZ and Renderosity and sold some camera gear early 2018 to continue funding the habit lol. I have some friends that would see images I rendered and want to know how I was doing it. I showed them DAZ and all their responses were similar, basically saying that it looked complicated and would take more time than they had to learn it so I guess it's not for everyone but it's a puzzle I have continued to enjoy and have not grown tired of. I am always trying to find better ways to light, setup materials, use other render engines (Octane right now), and even trying to learn to use ZBrush. I have an addictive personality so when I was doing photography all the time it was all I focused on and worked on when I wasn't doing the day to day grind. Now it's this.
I got Poser 3 free on a magazine and was instantly hooked. I went on to buy Poser 4, 5, 7 and finally 9.
I got Daz Studio when it first came out and at first wasn't very comfortable with it. So I mostly stuck with Poser.
In 2014 I stopped doing 3d due to health issues, and came back to it at the end of 2018. A lot has changed! I now really love Daz Studio and rarely open Poser!
The first Daz orders in my account are August 2002. First a free LE Dragon, that I must have liked as I bought the full Millennium Dragon the next day.
I had Carrara 5 (though not sure if this was from Daz) but sadly have no idea where my download went. It is not in my orders here, so I guess that is lost. I may get the newer version one day as I did enjoy using it for modelling.
I also had Vue D'Esprit version 8 but the downloads must be on the same (broken) portable harddrive as Carrara. I would love to get this back as I enjoyed rendering Daz characters in it and would like to do so again. Just trying to reset my password at the Eon store - maybe, just maybe, they have service like Daz and I can still access all my old purchase. Fingers crossed.
I read a good webcomic that was done in 3D and I asked how they did it. They pointed me to Poser which I played around with before moving to DS. I've got a very minor creative streak (as everyone here must) that I use DS as an outlet for because it's easy to be super casual and I can do it on the road ieasily in a hotel vs other creative hobbies.
