Get some site software that works!

...either fix this bloody site or just close up shop. This is ridiculous. I've spent nearly a half hour trying to purchase one item, only to keep getting perpetual swirlies followed by Cloudflare errors and then messages that the site is unable to load my personalised data and still cannot make the pruchase I wanted. This is pathetic considering it is happening during what is supposed to be one of your primary sales events. Find site/store software that works or just give it up.

Cloudflare errors nothing to do with software !
You need a new service provider.
..no I don't, I have an excellent ISP. I have no issues with Amazon, Newegg, or any other site I frequent or purchase from. just here.
Well I never get it, so who knows why it effects some people and not other ?
..this site software has been buggy ever since they moved to Magento several years ago. I remember when during the PC+ sale a few years ago all the prices went back to full cost during the last week (even for PC+ members) and never were fixed before the sale expired. Magento and Cloudflare were the worst decision Daz ever made. I know site managers who avoid both like the plague.
Amazon has mirror points all over the US. It has failover setup to automatically route you through a different server/location if the initial one you are connected to fails to connect in a certain timeframe. I would guess the same goes for NewEgg. That's why it doesn't happen with Amazon and NewEgg-- if the path is blocked between your ISP and their server, they send a new map.
...I've been with several different ISPs, including XfIity and CenturyLInk Fibre Optic and still had the same issues on all of them so it isn't my current ISP which is at fault, it is Magento and Cloudflare.
Crap, now it won't even let me place the order when I click on the button.
it affects me badly in Adelaide but I am not surprised, we are the arse end of the internet
DAZ is addmittedly worse than other sites though but again thats probably Cloudflare considering Adelaide a low priority
Cloudfare was down for a little while this morning, uk time, but seems to be back up and running now. That was here on the forums but I haven't been on the shop yet.
I didn't have any problems with the store this morning, shopped and checked out.
Just wanted to point out that 'waiting to load' issues are separate from 'store software not functioning properly' issues. Both are issues currently.
All one has to do is see all of the 'sale isn't working properly' posts in the hours after a sale goes live to recognize that the store software isn't perfect. The fact that we are expected to submit a ticket to use either PC+ coupon when there are free items in a sale just compounds the issue. It's more work for the Daz sales team to answer all of those tickets, not to mention the frustration of customers that have to wait hours or in some cases days to get a store credit for the difference, and that's assuming everyone gets the math right on the error, which if the customer doesn't agree may result in followup tickets. And that's just one issue among many...
What's even more frustrating is when you have say 4 dozen or more vendors on sale in a sale. While I really do appreciate the hard work that Ati and others put into the Daz Deals plugin, Ati has noted that when there are lots of vendors in the sale, well the 'view these artists together' widget that he created simply doesn't work. Now, this shouldn't be ATI's problem in the first place, as the Daz store software should simply HAVE a 'view these artists together' button incorporated directly into the store software that is there by default (yes, the sales team does occasionally include a button with this functionality in sales, but not always). Expecting people to click on ALL of those 4 dozen+ PAs one at a time to browse each library, well most people simply aren't going to do that. So the end result is that some vendors that are in a sale will be overlooked simply because someone wasn't going to click on four dozen vendors individually.
The artist dropdown on the sales pages also fails miserably if there are more than say 1-2 dozen PA's in a sale. Often, it simply will not work, so you can't use it to say sort out all of the Daz originals in a sale, 'cuz you can't see the options in the dropdown as it never loads.
Sure, the wishlist can help somewhat with that. But if some product isn't in someone's wishlist, simply because the person never saw the product page of something they might actually want, well Daz just lost a sale and so did the PA.
I'm sure that while we do appreciate the moderators keeping en eye on the sales and sending heads ups to whomever oversees the sales software to point out glitches, the point is that this is all unnecessary work for all parties involved. Which is generated thanks to the store software being glitchy, or simply not being set up properly for a given sale.
There have been a few times where sales never were fixed, and the advice was simply 'submit a ticket, we tried'.
The short form is, Daz is losing sales because of these software glitches and issues. Some people will never submit a ticket, they will simply see the incorrect higher price in their cart and dump it, not making the purchase. And others get frustrated with submitting CS tickets every time this happens, and having to wait on a response, so they may just 'skip' the sale at that point too. You do NOT want frustrated or irritated customers, and a LOT of that frustration is store software related.
Now as for the cloudflare issues, well those play into this too, but in my mind they are secondary to the other store software issues that require extra work on the customer's part to point out and in some cases get resolved. But yeah, if a LOT of people are having cloudflare issues, it might be time to lean on cloudflare to resolve the issues, or look for another solution to host the Daz store website.
As kyoto kid pointed out, these are issues we generally don't see in many other stores on the internet. Sure Amazon and Newegg are relatively huge compared to Daz3D, so they can afford better software techs, but at some point Daz3D needs to accept that the current store software solution is generating more work for their sales team than it should, which is time the sales and CS staff could be spending doing other things instead if those issues weren't there in the first place. The question then is, is Daz losing more money due to these software issues than it would cost to fix it or move to a better store sofware solution?
So yeah, what kyoto kid said.
Here in the UK, as I said in another thread, I have had almost simultaneous clod flare 501 or 502 errors on 2 or 3 sites, and all blame the host. I tend to think that it is too much of a coincidence for several sites to throw clodflare errors at tjhe same time.
...being 8 hours behind that sounds about right for the time I was having issues. Everything else was working fine, ESPN, Gmail, Fantasy Attic, etc. Just the Daz site was giving me grief so I know it wasn't my ISP. All totalled the disruption lasted about 45 minutes when all I wanted to do was purchase one item to use my DO coupon and head to bed
In case you haven't seen it, there's been a fair amount of worry lately about significant exploits in Magento. Not saying that these are affecting Daz, I haven't noticed any evidence of that, but something to keep an eye on.
My CC fell victim to the hacking of Rendo a few years back, so I've been cautious ever since.
They COULD make the web site a bit more efficient.
The scrolling images at the top of the shopping page is bloated overhead. Get rid of the scrolling because it really kills my android. I do not have a mobile plan that is unlimited internet data and speed.
I haven't checked but I suspect many of the tumbnail images are too big. You don't need high resolution and large pixel sizes for internet browsing.
Etc.
I'd really like to know where this particular error comes from — it's annoying, frequently pushes the browser view down just as I click on something, and I'm never sure if it really means something's actually wrong. I've had it pop up under pretty much any and every situation apart from actually being logged out.
Although I have got it a couple of times while logging out...
It seems to come more often on my mobile device, but from what I can tell it means that data is not cached and has to be fetched every time you change pages on the site, whether you're going from one page to another on the forums, or browsing in the store. If you click before the data has been retrieved and loaded on the new page, it will pop up.
I also only ever get those cloudflare errors or any sort of unavailable errors at the DAZ 3D site. It's not the ISP service provider we are using. Others besides Kyoto Kid have noted, repeated in the past month or two, site access problems at DAZ 3D. It's not some relay in between, it's the service provider DAZ 3D has contracted with to serve their site. As I've not shopped much I've not been that affected, just a couple of delays loading the gallery or even making a comment in the gallery. Didn't have this much trouble even in the 90s with dialup and the NCSA Mosaic browser.
...or Netscape.
The old homegrown Site Daz had many years ago seemed more stable in spite of the "bailing wire, bubblegum, and rubber band" patchwork that it was. It also had a forums and store search that actually was more useful compared to today.
