Next Daz version - enough crotch already?

ElgyfuElgyfu Posts: 279

A tongue-in-cheek improvement suggestion for the next version of Daz Studio...

Every time I get a new Daz character, I load him or her up and instinctively scroll in to have a better look at the face.

And zoom right in on their crotch.

I appreciate it is the middle of the human body, but still not perhaps the ideal focal point for "first contact".

I don't have any issues with nudity, besides, the poor boys (and most Daz girls) don't really have anything down there to see...

I have done this as long as I have had Daz Studio. I never learn.

All my new dollies start off showing me their (lack of) bits.  It's like a freaky 3d casting couch session.

And I am pretty sure Mrs Chow glared at me when I did it to her.

LOL, right Mrs Chow glared at me as well :D

I think there is an option hidden somewhere to change the initial focal point, but I don't recall how

I never learn either, and not just with that - I've often wished I had a quid for every time I've noticed a disembodied pair of eyelashes ages after I've had some reason to hide Genesis :)

This already happened too many times I now click on the head first.

I wish it was eyelashes floating around... try being left with floating 'bits' after you remove Michael...

I know you can save a default scene and have DS open it every time it starts. I thought there was a way to save a custom camera view, but I just tried it and can't get it to work. Now this is gonna bother me all day.angry

I know sex sells, but this is ridiculous. You open the program, zoom in and you're staring at a crotch. Now I can't unsee it, lol.

that's why it has a separate geograft to load later, who knew  blush

Anyone else remember the male gens icon back in the M3 days, and possibly as late as M4? Not the words "Genitalia/Gens" or maybe a discreet tighty whities picture like now. It was an  Anatomically Correct image! So every time I went to my content pane to select a male figure, I was looking at a picture of male gens because they were right next to the M3 base figure icons.

First thing I do is click on the head before I zoom in. Takes me straight to the face. :)

The zoom function always brings the center of the frame closer. As I work in Photoshop a lot, I'll move the cursor to where I want the zoom, scroll the mouse wheel and then laugh at myself for doing it yet again, when I know DS and PS don't do zoom the same way! (I also find myself trying to move around the promo pictures as if they were a scene in my viewport, if I've been working on something a lot just prior!)

First thing I do is click on the head before I zoom in. Takes me straight to the face. :)

I take it one step further I select the head, and then click on the "+" icon. Centers the head and zooms in one step.

However, you can also click on the head to select it, and then use the key combination of "Ctrl+Shift+A" to center it without zooming in. That's a wonderful Keyboard shortcut to memorize. It centers the selected object/zone in the frame without zooming in. It's a real easy way to move around a set quickly, most of the time without losing your camera's perspective.

    @Kitsumo:

    1. Open your default scene.
    2. Create a new camera.
    3. Change from Perspective View to the new camera.
    4. Set up your custom view. (It may help to add an object to the scene.)
    5. Option 1: Go to the menu and Save as -> Camera Preset.
    6. Option 2: Save the scene. (Remove any objects used for setting up the camera view first.)
    7. Option 3: Do both Step 5 and Step 6.

    I hope this helps.

  • At least they don't load with gens attached? :D

I saved a default camera of the perspective view and then use perspective to select, click and zoom in on the face first thing.

this turned out to be interesting .. so now I found I can click the head, click the camera centering icon, and the head is centered in the viewport. Yea

Now, can I keep this setup so DS always loads that way?
Or perhaps saving the resulting camera positioning to always load in that spot so any character added would come in with head centered?

Yes, you can create any default camera. I wish that we could save multiple default cameras and have a face and hand cameras like in Poser...

Cinema 4D has a 'smart' focal point, centred under the mouse pointer - hover over the area of the scene you want to zoom in on, mousewheel in and voila, no below the belt hits. Something similar would be great (not to mention assigning F1-F4 keys to different views: perspective, top, front & side respectively).

I'm sure other 3D apps have similar.

No they don't. I have read that it's hard to get clothing like pants to fit/look right when the gens are applied. (I don't know if it's true since I've never tried using the gens.)

I do have a serious question, out of sheer curiosity: With the Genesis 1-3  males, the only gens files I recall seeing in my content are labeled Mats. Is the mesh included, or is it in another file I haven't noticed.

Oh, gee, now everyone knows I am a total innocent about 3D gens!! I may die of embarrassment!

The anatomical elements are avcailable only as part of (some of) the adult Name Pro Bundles.

You can set up multiple cameras in a scene, save the scene, and tell Daz Studio to load that scene every time you start up Daz Studio:

Oh my god, so I can have one camera set to point to head, and two others to right and left hand! Brilliant! Thanks, never thought of saving a scene like that..

Oh, wait. How can they point to a character’s head who is not in the scene? Never mind. This looks like it won’t work for my purposes. I really miss the Poser head and hand cameras! Please Daz, put it in the next version...

Oh, you mean they have cameras that AUTOMATICALLY point to the head and hands? That's pretty cool! :)

Maybe you could save the scene with the figure you use most, have the cameras "point at" certain points of the figure (Cameras >> General >> Point At). Like if you use G8F the most, maybe you could set up the scene with the cameras pointed at those points on her and save it as your start-up scene.

But yeah, I agree, cameras in Daz Studio that automatically point at those points does sound pretty cool.

Please no, at least not by default. I never used those camera options in poser and since I still import older poser scenes into DS to this day, it gets old deleting all those extra cameras each time.
