Is it possible to apply dforce to an object?

Is it possible to apply dforce to an object that doesn't have it? I would like to apply dforce to a sofa. Thanks

Yes, you can add a dForce modifier to any surface.

There's no guarantee that you will get a good result, though: for example if your item is made of separate parts which are not welded together it might split when simulated. Dforce also doesn't like self-intersecting meshes. But it's worth the try.

In theory you can apply dforce to any object - won't always work well depending on the mesh (If the mesh is in multiple parts, it can fall to pieces. If it has overlapping geometry, it can explode).

If you set dforce gravity at zero on the sofa cushion and animate a person sitting down, it may deform the mesh of the sofa cushion. But if the cushion doesn't have enough polys, then it won't work (apparently adding subd to the mesh doesn't work here - though subdividing in a modeller and reimporting might work).

You may have to experiment to find out.

You can add dForce to pretty much any object you can get into Daz Studio. That's not to say that every object is going to play nice with dForce though, as some objects that aren't built for dForce will fall apart or "explode" (don't worry, when that happens it just looks ugly, it doesn't actually damage anything). :)

You can apply dForce by selecting the object then go to Edit >> Object >> Geometry >> Add dForce Modifier: Dynamic Surface

Well enough thanks :) - You?

Yay! (wanna show us a render? :) )

  • I can't find it right now--you know how the search function is--but a couple months ago, there was a thread with renders people had done of cars and buildings they had used dForce on. Those looked great for wreak, superhero/villain battle, and disaster props. There was even a full scene of people fleeing from falling buildings.
