How to Modify an Architercture asset?

Hi,

I would like to modify a daz asset, it is the exterior of a restaurant building.  I believe architecture assets are not created in Daz, can they be modified in daz? (other than just changing the surfaces)

If not, what modeling platform can I load daz format architecture assets into and modify them?

Thank you

Can you be more specific about "modify?" The Geometry Editor (under Tools) allows for polygons and vertices (maybe more) to be selected and reassigned (so they can be hidden).

You can export as a .OBJ and edit in any modeling tool and then re-import into DS, but you will lose any rigging like opening doors or windows and you will usually have to redo the textures. You can also only do this for personal use

As xyer0 pointed out, if you just need to hide a wall or item, the geometry editor works great in this aspect.

Hexagon is free and there is a bridge for DazStudio/ Hexagon exchange...

I actuall need to add to the structure, is it possible to copy  existing sections and pile them on top or to the sides?

Sure, if you are just adding another copy to it, then use instancing (CREATE - New Node Instances) this will add copies of the building and save on resources. if you are just wanting to add parts, then you will need to edit in a modeling app as mentioned earlier.

Everthing you see in 3D structures is just a "wire mesh" with an "image" attached to it smiley

Sure it is possible to copy a certain part, duplicate it and place it elsewhere, but you need some basic modelling skills in a modelling program.

If the UV mapping for the duplicated part is lost or messed up, you also need to know how to remap it !

Using the geometry editor and multiple instances in DazStudio would also be possible (with the non needed

parts hidden), but as far as I remember there were issues with the geometry editor and multiple instances

of the same prop, don't know if this is fixed yet.

Sounds like a kitbash. Those are as easy or as difficult as you want to make them. Be prepared to lose some of the original textures. Find shaders that you can apply to the different pieces which you are combining to make them look like they belong together. Be prepared to need to go into the geometry editor and create new matt zones.  Parent things, and if you ever want to shift the entire "construction", group them.
