Quadro M2200M?

I'm in the UK and a US friend who builds LTs has just offered me a Lenovo P51 with a Quadro M2200M card for an amazingly low price, even factoring in shipping costs. But I seem to recall someone on the forums not recommending Quadro for DS. I've done a search and I'm frankly baffled by posts I've read. The other specs are:

W10 Pro 64 - 1TB slid state driveM.2 - 32GB (2x16) DDR4 2400Mhz SODIMM Memory - Xeon Processor E3-1535M v6 (8M cache, 3.10 GHz) - 6 cell Li Polymer Battery (90w)

Sounds great, but I'm a bit baffled about the Quadro as I'm sure I once read someone give a no-no for DS for some specific reason.

Best thing I suggest is to search for threads in the forum about the subject.

Use Google rather that the Daz search
I serached for Quadro  Daz 3d Forums and got quite a few results, including this thread   https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/267116/geforce-vs-quadro/p1

Thanks, Chohole! That's a much better thread than those I found using the DS Forums Search. I still can't make my mind up whether or not to buy the Lenovo as I really need a new desktop and not a laptop, but what I'm being offered is almost half the price of what I'd need to spend on a new desktop!

Are you sure you're being offered a Quadro M2200M? there's no such card. There's a M2200 and a M2000M. The M2000m is Fermi and is no longer supported by Nvidia meaning you'll be stuck with whatever driver is installed on the lappie and Nviedia could stop supporting it in iray at any time.

I checked out the M2200M online and there are references to it. However, I decided not to buy the Lenovo as I really need a new desktop, my current one being 13 years old! I've never had a fault with it in all that time but it's very noisy and too many parts need replacing/updating.

You can check Nvidia's site. The M2200 is a mobile quadro. The M2200M doesn't come up.

    For instance:

    https://www.nvidia.com/content/dam/en-zz/Solutions/design-visualization/documents/quadro-mobile-pro-graphics-line-card-us-r1-hr.pdf

Noise in your desktop is probably old fans. 13 years if the rig gets much use at all is way beyond the rated lifespan of fans from that era. The case, if its a standard ATX, is likely the part you have the best hope of re-using but a case that old might be worth replacing just to get things like front panel USB.

See this link for the M2200M. https://forum.enscape3d.com/index.php?thread/2010-nvidia-quadro-m2200m/

The laptop the poster mentions is the same model as the one I was offered, so maybe the Quadro only ever appeared on that, or is the M2200 under a different name for that model. ... Re my old PC it is the fans, the power unit ones specifically, but the PC is so old it's not worth upgrading as it would probably cost more than a new one. It actually has 2 x front USB inputs, but they're USB1. In it's day it was state of the art, but now it's "soooo last Tuesday"!

I posted the mobile Quadro's from that era. There simply isn't any such thing. I have no idea if Dellscrewed up in some advertising or what but there is no such card according to Nvidia and every other reliable resource I could find.

If the PSU fan is going you definitely need to at least get a new PSU. If that fan goes and the PSU catastrophically overheats, it shouldn't but with anything that old who knows what else is wrong inside, you could be looking at a fire.Just don't be relieved if that noise goes away.

Femi support has already been dropped in 4.11.
