Need Help with D/S version of the Hawk.

I've imported the OBJs into DS and set up the textures and then saved as a scene file in the scenes directory.

Now, in order to zip this up for others to DL, which files need to be included for it to be used by others in DS?

I'm familiar with the Poser file structure, but not DS. :)

  • Saving as a scene file will work, but it's a bit clunky and you'll end up with large, slow-loading scene files (especially if you have multiple ships in your scene). It's much more efficient to do a full, clean conversion into D|S native format.

    • Load the Hawk into a blank scene. I have all parts parented to the Command Module, and the missiles parented to the wings, to make applying materials easier.
    • Delete any default lights or cameras in the scene; there should be nothing there except your model.
    • Create a folder in your Content location where you want the scene file to appear.
    • Save as a Scene Asset — File>Save As>Support Asset>Scene Asset. Point the save dialog to the folder you just created and name the scene file. Fill in the text boxes with the product name (Hawk) and creator name (you).

That should give you a folder in your Content location with a Scene Subset of the complete ship, plus a folder of all the component parts, and a folder in the /data/ folder containing all the mesh data. Just as with Poser, the textures will be in a folder in /Runtime/Textures/.

  • If you just saved as a scene/scene subset, without saving the items as assets, then just the scene file and the textures (and the read me, of course).

  • I was about to mention the materials settings I used, when I realised I hadn't used any of the Ambient Occlusion files. Can anyone suggest which parameter I ought to apply these to? My usual page in the D|S online help on Iray materials parameters doesn't mention AO at all.
