Render dropping to CPU question

This could be a stupid question but I’m still a newbie with GPU rendering. How do you know when your render has dropped from GPU to CPU?

I would imagine you’d know if your HD starts tapping.

I have GPU-Z and see the gpu during rendering is going at 100% would gpu-z show the drop from gpu use to CPU? Just asking.

  • If your GPU usage drops to near 0, it will still be driving the monitor, that means the render has dropp to CPU. You can also keep task manager or CPU-z up and watch CPU usage. During a render the CPU shouldn't be maxed out unless you have the CPU included in the render. If its maxed out anyway then the render has dropped to CPU.

  • If you look in the DAZ Studio log it says what devices are being used by the renderer.

Edit: Yes Gpuz sensors tab shows you Gpu utilization %. You watch the memory use go up to 95 of what you have. Sit there for a short eternity. But then no GPU use. [And hear your cup fan start kicking in]

I've used a utility called Core Temp for over a decade since intel re-standardised how the CPU itself would monitor it's own temperature.

You have it constantly on display next to you windows time. You also have it display CPU utilisation (percentage of how hard it's working).

Also, your graphics card overclocking software can probably do this too.

TechPowerUp's free GPU-Z will show you how much of your videocard's memory you're using and if it's rendering when you are rendering a scene.
