GPU failed to render OOT Hair

I'm still very new to daz (currently using 4.10 Pro) so I'm sorry if this question is asked before. So, I've been trying to setup a scene using outoftouch's charlene hair, but my GPU (GTX 1060 6GB) always failed to render it and end up using CPU which take time forever! At first, I thought because my scene was too complex and my GPU ran out of memory, so I tried a very simple scene with just Victoria 7 figure and the OOT hair with lighting come from default dome, but the render still end up with CPU. I already made sure that only my GPU was checked on render settings. I have another OOT Hair from outoftouch, Claudia Hair and the result is still the same, my GPU failed to render it. This problem only happened with oot hair, I've tried several other non OOT Hair and my GPU rendered it all just fine. My GPU using the latest nvidia driver I downloaded from nvidia official site.     OOT's hair can be tough on resources; try rendering with just the hair in the scene, literally nothing else. If it works then it isn't the hair per se.

    You could also try reducing the texture sizes of the hair.

    Whilst I have a number of OOT's hair, I don't have that one; maybe someone else who owns it will pop by.

    Seems like your scene didn't fit in your video cards memory.

    You need the old nvidia driver (417.71) the new 418.x has problems with iray at the moment.

    From driver 418.91 release notes, known issues section, page 15:

     - [Iray][OptiX]: Iray GPU acceleration crashes and falls back to CPU acceleration. [2503738]

  • OOT Tends to use 8K textures on every single hair surface, so you either need to invest in Scene Optimizer or the freebie texture reducer here or here, in order to make the hair fit on your graphics card. I have a 6gb card as well and have problems even with their male hairs not fitting. 

  • Unless I'm misreading the log, isn't the texture consumption less than 2 gigs? So it shouldn't be that alone...

    I should have caught it, he did say he updated the NVIDIA driver, in that case it's also an issue, he needs to downgrade to 417.71 as the newset drivers have changed and DAZ Studio needs to catch up.

    Good thing I have all those options as thst is just overkill IMO

    It has nothing to do with Daz. Nvidia has admitted the recent drivers break iray and optix. Its in the patch notes

    I tried to use some freebie texture reducer you mentioned but the problem still exist.

    I think this is most likely the cause. I think I'll just wait for now until nvidia release new update driver. I'm not sure using old version is good idea because I also use this gpu for extensive gaming and it's been working wonder so far.

    All My OOT hairs were forcing my renders down to the CPU also. I just loaded the latest Nvidia driver for my 1080TI, 419.67, and I can confirm the problem with Linda hair and the rest of my G3F/G8F OOT hairs are running fine on the GPU now.
