Copyright/usage of 3D printed items from DAZ3D

Hi,

I have a 'quick' question about copyright and use of 3D printed items.

Just a short background why i'm asking: I'm designing a boardgame and i'm currently using meeples for the playing pieces (for non-core gamers- it's the little/simple wood figure shapes that a lot of popular games tend use these days).  It works ok, but I can't really say that the game wouldn't be 100 times better without a lovely little miniature gaming piece, like a 3D printed person/robot/vehicle. Certainly companies like games workshop would agree!

Eventually i'd like to take my game to kickstarter, then eventualy sell through gaming stores around the world (at least that's the plan).

If i used a bunch of models that i purchased (or got free) on Daz3D then printed them off to supply with the game, am i likely to fall foul of copyright laws/resale laws etc??

I should add, that they'd be single colour plastic - so i'm not using any supplied textures, just a whole bunch of modelled items from many different creators.  Is it as simple as giving a named credit in the rules booklet??

Many thanks for any help :)

As I underwstand it,  right now only your  own personal use of a 3d  printed DAZ model is permitted. So you would be in violation of the EULA if you distributed the model

Nope, any part of a model coming from DAZ3D, be it mesh or textures falls under the DAZ EULA and cannot be shared and needs special licensing to be sold. There is no commercial license for 3d printed models yet, but I believe it is being worked on. Best to contact customer service for a more difinitive answer.

As others have said, it's not permitted. Quoting directly from the standard Daz licensing agreement:

"The creation of three-dimensional physical representations (3D-print, molded copy, CNC-routed copy, and the like) of Content or any three-dimensional art derived from the Content is permitted only for personal, non-commercial use by the User. Additionally, the user may not grant other entities or individuals the right to produce such physical representations of the Content except for the sole purpose of providing the print to the User for their personal use".

  • If you want to make commercial use of 3D prints please open a Sales Support ticket to discuss your options https://www.daz3d.com/help/help-contact-us

  • Really? This isn't covered by the interactive license?

    Nope, only commercial game development

  • Hopefully DAZ can address this across the board soon(ish) rather than through individual inquiries.
