Skin surface help please

Where do I find the settings to turn down some of the shininess on skin textures? There is way too much gloss and I want to tone it down some. Is the settings to do this tied to the translucency?

It depends and there are a few to change depending on the results you want. In iray the new features include the new dual lobe settings, whereas the older Iray settings used the glossy layered weight slider and glossy color setting. If you post an image of the surface we can help more

Daz Studio reads the shader from the top down,  meaning that settings further down are at the outer edges and can override one further up.
So if you want to change the shininess of a surface, it isn't always going to be adjust one dial and everything changes.  Sometimes you can turn off top coat and now, the glossiness layer is more fully expressed and it's still shiny.

So Start with TopCoat.then Glossy, and lastly dual lobe specular. Select all your skin surfaces (and not just ALL surfaces) and then you can lower the layer weight or up the roughness until you get the look you want.

The first thing I do when I want to adjust the glossiness is to check the Duel Lobe settings. If the character is using Duel Lobe, try lowering the Duel Lobe Specular Weight you can also increase the Duel Lobe Roughness.

Adjusting the Duel Lobe settings usually does the trick.

If they aren't using Duel Lobe settings or changing the Duel Lobe Specular Weight or Roughness doesn't give you the results you want you can try turning down the Glossy Layered Weight and Glossy Reflectivity, and/or turning UP the Glossy Roughness.

  • Sydney is the character that seems a little hot on the skin glossiness. Thank you Lyoness and Divamake up very much I'll give these a try.
