Impact of new Nvidia RTX videocards on Daz Studio renders.

I have recently upgraded to a HP Gaming Pavilion with a Ryzen 5 2400 cpu (8GB RAM and 1TB HD) with a Nvidia GTX1050 GPU, this system even has a Radeon Vega GPU on the same chip as the CPU (I think I have them both selected for iray acceleration).  Runs Daz Studio quite well for my purposes. I have noticed that there seems to be some good deals online clearing out systems with Nvidia GTX cards to make way for the RTX cards, which are powerful enough to do real-time rendering in games soon to come out this year. My question is are any of these new features being considered for the next version of Daz studio, and what impact will the RTX have in 3d rendering in the future? I am curious if upgrading would be worthwhile.

There are already a plethora on threads on just these issues. Some, myself included, are waiting for some sort of epiphany when DS and NVIDIA get their butts into gear and give us the full power of GTX.... I'm not exactly holding my breath.

Either way, my 2080 does give me at least a 70% reduction in render times over my old 960. Be thankful for small mercies and don't expect the world to fall at your feet.... or you'll be dissapointed for sure.

  • As noted there are several threads on the 20x0 cards, so I will lock this. As also noted, the new RTX features are not supported in Iray at all (and you need the Public Beta 4.11 version to use the 20x0 cards in Iray) - it will be entirely up to nVidia whether that changes or not. Although you are enabling the CPU for Iray that doesn't mean it is using the Vega, only the CPU itself is doing anything.
