Anybody still use the older Genesis figures?

Just asking out of curiosity. I really want to use Victoria 4.2 because of a morph that is made for it but was still wondering if these older characters like Genesis and Genesis 2 are used these days.
And would love to hear your thoughts on them in general - as well as using them with iray- is it better to use 3DL with these older figures due to their skin textures being made for it or is a skin texture converter to iray script a better choice?
Thanks

I still use G2 (mostly male), G3 and of course G8 figures. I don't like Genesis much (looks "doughy" to me and I'm not particularly impressed with G1's version of Vicky and Mike) I do like David 3 tho oddly enough. As for V4, I didn't use the Generation 4's much even when they were the only game in town. LOL

Edit: I neglected to mention that I DO use Genesis 1 for the monsters I have for it. I have a few because that particular version worked so beautifully for that.
I mostly use G3. The only thing it lacks are as many dForce-compatible clothing items (a shame many aren't being retrofitted for that ability, as it would give them a new lease of life for any new customers). It has HD and Iray compatibility.
Some G2 and even a few Genesis characters are kind of Iray-compatible, though not too many, alas (most sort of are, but only a handful look right when posed in a scene alongside Iray props, clothing and characters). I've actually had a lot more success in Iray renders with older environments, surprisingly enough.
Mainly G3F, sometimes G2F.
...I still use Genesis "classic" as there are a lot of toon character shapes (including legacy ones like Sadie, Sam and Mavka) available which I still use and I have a nice set of morphs for creating aliens for Sci-Fi scenes.
it also serves as a nice "bridge" for bringing legacy shapes through GenX to later Genesis figures.
Generally I try to use as late a generation as possible, but it's inspired a bit by clothes and morphs. Also, if I really want specific monster stuff, the applicable geografts or morphs are going to come into play (like if I want a four arm dude, well, Genesis it is)
Any older, pre GF3 figures I like, I just transfer the morphs using GenX and then use them on the newer figures. I stopped using non Iray skins since I never use 3DL.No matter how much I tweak a skin not made for Iray it never really looks that great IMO
Older characters are used by anyone who owns them and is willing to do so. Nobody much is releasing new content based on them, but the figures all still work in the program.
Yes. Especially for background characters if the clothing I want to use was created for Genesis. Same with G2. I rather spend my tweaking time with foreground elements, rather than dealing with clothing fits. Iray Uber Base conversion is also sufficient for these background characters.
@Xenomorphine, There are two ways to use G8 clothing on G3, (female to female, male to male,) One is to purchase the clothing converters from RiverSoft Art and Sickleyield, (male, female). The second is manually on a per product basis, following this tutorial from Sickleyield.
I know I'm in the minority but I use 3Delight and still use mostly Genesis 2 and 3 figures. But I'm not aiming for photorealism and I postwork my renders extensively for a more fantasy-ish style.
I have tons of content for G2/G3 and I still buy more regularly.

Hi, good question
I use G2 M/F very nearly exclusively I make my own clothing and most of my custom
cloth items are for that generation.
I
have hundreds of morphs for the G2 female human & alien
including many brought up from as far back as
Vicky 3 via GENX 2.
I only use two G3 male figures Ivan 7 and Fat george.
Dont ever use the G3 femaleand hav very little G3F content beyond the few oufits I made for her
As an animated filmaker who does not render in Daz studio
IRay textures are not relevant to my pipeline
G8 was Dead on Arrival for me
yep.. just used M4 the other day with AntFarms new release..
as Daz3d haven't got the resources to keep their software updated to use their latest figures Carrara users predominantly make use of all the old models up to G2
I use everything in my library old and new
G1 is still in use here.
I use Genesis, G2M & F, G3 M & F. I haven't gotten into G8 much because my budget has been tight the past few years. Between budget and having only started to get seriously into G3 at the time G8 was released, I decided to stick with G3 and earlier. I do still use Genesis (sometimes earlier gnes for background people) but currently mostly G2 & 3.
..yeah I basically cut things off after G3 as well. Not only because of budget, but also as I didn't see G8 being a significant improvement over what I had to warrant rebuying a lot of morph, pose, and resoruce content all over, and rebuilding all my characters again.
I'll mainly use G3, but I'll use G2/1/8 for certain characters (especially 3DUniverse and RawArt) but I'll also still use the Generation 4 or even 3 gang on rare occasion - it's a case of whatever fits the render best.
Almost exclusively G1, the most versatile figure IMO, have all the morphs and pretty much every piece of clothing worth having + done a lot of custom stuff for it, so I'm good. Nowadays I just pick up G2 and G3 stuff when on sale, fits G1 nicely and rigging and textures are so much better. Also M4 is cool, lot of nice morphs and skins, + fitting M4 stuff to Genesis sometimes works well sometimes not so much:) Don't like V4 much, but some of the skins are really nice. So I really see no reason to invest over and over again in the same stuff, as many people have mentioned in previous threads. Buy into G9?
Don't think so...
I swore I'd be happy with Genesis and that new rigging and such was just snake oil.
But after trying out Genesis 3 and 8... dang, they actually bend better and have better expressions etc.
Sure, I give you that:) With G1 you simply have to avoid extreme posing. Another thing to keep in mind, especially when rendering in 3DL, is that HD morphs are pretty much useless, since you are limited to SubD level 1. But on the other hand displacement works so much better.
Same here.
I use all Genesis generations. It depends on the artistic purpose - not on what's hot at the moment. As a fan of V4.2 face morphs, I like to render portraits with this figure, too.
I am still rendering in 3DLight and use Genesis 1 and 2 almost exclusively. I deleted Genesis 3 from my Library and only have Genesis 8 because I wanted to try that dForce-Outfit when dForce was introduced. I began playin with Daz when Genesis 1 was new and therefore that figure has the most morph options in my library and it is also the most versatile being male, female and child all in one figure. Genesis 2 is a lovely figure and I like it. I never liked Genesis 3 from the beginning and since my computer is very slow with Iray there was never a reason for me to begin with Genesis 8 at all. I am not going to invest over and over again for the same morph packs to make a figure useable just because there are a few more bones in the face. I never tried to have my renders look like photos either though.
I still use the older models, though have to correct another poster. It's only the Daz site that wants you to forget the older models. Every other site out there still makes stuff even all the way back to V3 and M3, I even sometimes see a new item for V2.
I use them all as well. I started my webcomic when G1 was new,
so my main characters are all G1, and I'm not changing them.
Plus, I like the clothing better.
I do use G2 and 3 for some of my newer characters.
A lot of my new characters are Melody-based, and G1 works
best for them, as well.
I have no problems with G1 and iray.
I still mostly use my big closet of G1 & G2, plus a lot of the older M4 and F4 characters & their stuff. Mostly for monsters & superheros.
G3 & G8 are just small closet curiosities to me. NOTHING with IRAY.
Absolutely! Once you clothe a character, the bending, and such does not really affect things too much. A3 still has some of the best anime outfits around, so I use her a bunch. (though her hands are a little wonky)
Then again, I am unique in that I put character "heads" from one generation, and parent them to other generation bodies. I render non-realistic characters, so textures are not an issue, I use a general skin shader, and I never have to fiddle with clothing converters.
In essence... I cheat
I use Genesis 1 for monsters and unusual characters. Generally I use G8 or G3 otherwise because the expressions are much better. If you're doing comics, photorealism isn't an issue. Toons are toons.
