OT- Voyage to the bottom of the sea fans

I loved the Voyage to the bottom of the sea series on TV when I was a kid ( it made me become a sailor LOL)  heck I dug all the Ewrin Allen shows "Time Tunnel, Land of the Giants,etc.

Sooo I decided to create a render of the seaview and the flying sub Just a in process render the final coming to a gallery near you!

    I remember watching some of that as a kid (re-runs I think), though I remember Time Tunnel and especially Land of the Giants more - guess I watched more of that, or was older.

    I loved the Time Tunnel.  Looks pretty cheesy by today's standards but most 60's sci-fi does.

    so did I .. I even watch an episode every now and then on youtube ..

    I even had a go at modeling my own Seaview, Flying sub, mini sub and dive bell in Carrara smiley

    can never have to much of VTTBOTS yes

    Loved the show as a kid and as a kid, liked the big sea-monser battles.

    Funny how, as an adult, watchin git again, how serious and dark the first season was.

    They were captured by the enemy and had a bunch of their men lined up in front of a firing squad....

    I'm thinking 'No way this is gonna happen...." and it does.

    A lot of shows started off one way and then got turned in cheese.

    Battlestar Galactica (TOS) was very dark and ominous and then got turned.

    Lost In Space started off serious.

    Space 1999, first season is a classic.

    I keep hearing in how the original B&W Superman, he used to kill the gangsters.

    (Six mIllion Dollar Man) The Bionic Man used to kill the bad guys too.

    ...there was also a feature film released in 1961 that spawned the series three years later. The cast included Walter Pidgeon, Joan Fontane, Barbara Eden (of Jeannie fame), Peter Lorre, and Frankie Avalon and was dircted by the Master of Disaster himself, Irwin Allen (who also produced the television series).

    The story itself was pretty far fetched as the Van Allen Radiation Belt suddenly catches fire due to a meteor shower and begins to cook the earth.  Admiral Nelson ret. (Walter PIdgeon) is also supposedly a brilliant scientist and comes up with an idea that the fire in the sky could be blown out using one of the atomic missiles the Seaview carries.  He outlines his plan to national leaders at he UN but it is rejected.  The Seaview departs and slips away to the Marianas trench to fire the missile.  En route they are attacked by a giant sea monsters, pursued and fired on by other subs (that implode when they go to deep) and subjected to depth charges from, surface ships.

    In the end the missile is launched and the world is saved. 

    I remember seeing it back then for 50¢ on Saturday matinee at the old Telenews Cinema in Milwaukee.

    My best friend (we were both six when we first met) and I were invited to spend the day at 20th Century Studios by her special-X-man father. The year was 1969 and we visited the sets of many shows including "Land of the Giants". It's one of my favorite memories.
