point lights conundrum
Moving point lights around is a trip to Hell. They're never where they appear to be, in fact miles away from where they appear to be. Then you start translating the s__t out of them out of frustration and it's like trying to dig your way out of a whole. I couldn't find a thread on this dilemma. Guess I'm the only one with an issue.

Gauging depth on a 2D screen is difficult, especially when the objects have no size, like a point light. One trick you might try is to use two cameras looking from different angles and switch between them as you move the light. Or change the viewport option to see multiple views at the same time whilst you position the light.
Yes, I would switch to a three or four viewport set-up (View menu), then have a top view and a left or front view, both in wireframe, plus a perspective or camera view (ideally in Iray preview mode) of use the Aux Viewport (with IPR on) to judge the effect. I have a separate activity tab (a room) set up for lighting.
Good suggestions, thanks.
