Blending skin materials?

I'm modifying stock skin materials to add things like dirt and scrapes. It's working well, but the face material blends with the torso material at certain seams around the neck. Is there a way to blend those seams? Or is the only answer to make sure the jpeg files have the same color at the edges?

"make sure the jpeg files have the same color at the edges"

    This.

It can be tricky without a seam guide that helps align the edges of the UV maps when creating textures, as determining which portion of the flattened maps corresponds to that on one of the others can be difficult. Using an application that does painting right on the 3D model facilitates this, but isn't essential.

There are programs that let you paint right on the model?

Mari, 3d Coat, ZBrush (fiddly ore requires remapping), Substance Painter (requires remapping) and probably others.

  • ... and probably others.

Also Blender, in Texture Paint mode.  But it's not straightforward to set up.
