Is there an independent forum not attached to a store?

Is there a forum or discussion group that is not attached to a store, such as this one is?
It would be great to be able to dis or talk about issues without the need to make a buck  keeping everything nice and prettier than what reality actually is.
Show a breast in a render without the sky falling upon you. Somewhere that is controlled as far as slamming and name calling but open enough to be in an adult discussion.

I would love that also, but none that I am aware of. Even if there was, there seems to be to many users that are "comfortable" at DAZ and have no desire to step outside that comfort zone, for other content or anything else, so I have to wonder if an outside forum would see many participants from these forums..

maybe not from here. It depends on what they willing to discuss ... It wouldn;t be that much different, but it wouldn't have the clamps of not really talking aobut other stores, it owuld open up a lot of discussion on products, stores, more open on use of colorful language if needed to make a point, on and on ...

I like it here more for the technical expertise avaialbe about using DS..as you give quite often, and that is the overall thrust of these forums..all that is commendable. I'm not into censorship and prefer more open discussion.

I used to have one. People came for my freebies and not much else ;). Forums not attached to a store don't usually get a lot of traffic. Even forums attached to a store don't get a lot of traffic unless the store is years old. I know some stores that have opened in the last 10 years that still don't get much traffic despite being open for many years. Me, I just do live chat. If you need help, it's more immediate and it can be quite pleasant (and/or funny) at times :). I think as a general rule, forums are on their way out and chat is in.

My experience has taught me there's enough room for both options.  I'm not a fan of live chat systems so I provide a forum-based option.

Personally I think forums are on their way out, except as small club sort of things.

It's _incredibly_ hard to keep them from being over run by really loathsome people unless you have dedicated and smart moderators. Ultimately, there's no moderation like 'this is my feed and I choose my friends.'

for sure this ... it gets messy often. then turns to just BS all the time. policing... I can see why its a bit buttoned down here or it would get out of control pretty fast. you have to have members that are respectful of rules that are set. One I had in my old forums was no belittling, ill talking of other people. keep it respectful at least

That's what Visions of Darkness is, a relatively small club full of exceptionally talented artists who specialize in subject matter that would (understandably) never be allowed on sites like this.  While I would be flattered to see its popularity sky rocket someday, that level of success is not my goal.  My onlly interest is giving an artists a safe, secure platform to share and discuss their work with as much creative freedom as possible.

    Small world ain't it.  ;)

    Live chat!

I don't have the time or inclination to spend the time it would need.

I have been BBSing since 1983 and on various internet fora and newsgroups for over two decades, with one constant. I don't do interactive live conversations AKA 'chat'. I like to think about my replies before I type.

the forums used to be very active. I remember when AOL first got fgoing. there was a pretty big forum for Poser and Bryce ... with the developers active. prior to PFO and all that.

I'm rather fortunate in that I actually prefer the restrictions Daz has on erotica and similar. I have very little interest in it, and it'd be off-putting to keep running into it (not to mention difficult perusing when my kids are about).

That said, I certainly hope people can find venues more suited to their interests.

i'm not into porn at all, but some low key eroticism not so bad... or a peak of a breast, whatever here and there. even male members ... they sell them, why not show em. just not in sexual acts here, but like in a shower, swimming, whatever.

Biut i know this has been discussed here forever and usually shut down. anyway... light censorship on words, open to discuss other sites, products, stores, review products openly, say right out if osmething is not good, etc etc

OK, so this is a not so serious suggestion, but maybe... We could start a Secrets board on a blogging platform like LiveJournal or DreamWidth. You submit your opinion as a .jpg or .png image, hosted on Imgur or a similar site, by anonymously sending the moderators a link. Then the submitted secrets are posted once a week. LJ allows you to comment anonymously, so you can all discuss freely and safely.

(I've been involved in communities where this has in some periodes been the only way to express a dissenting opinion, without the risk of someone calling your employer to tell them you're an evil person. You lot seem above that sort of stuff.)
