Sun-Sky Rendering >>> Several questions

davesodaveso Posts: 7,886

I really like the ability to simulate sun position. It enables seasonal/daily variations in light, global location differences, time of day, and so forth.

1. In dome and scene rendering, using the perspective camera, there is always a hidden headlight. Is this true using Sun-Sky rendering? It seems to be using only sunlight.
2. Is there a way to add clouds to the atmosphere? and if so, would the clouds change the way the light hits the object or ground?
3. Is 12 AM supposed to be noon or midnight?  12AM is noon in DAZ Studio. I guess that's correct.

I am not able to answer 2, and 3, since I'm not very good at atmospheric, and the English 12h time system has always been a deep mystery for me (we use 24h time system daily here). But for the 1, the answer is that there is a "headlamp" on the camera. It's an option that can be activated/deactivated in the camera panel,  (when you select the camera) or in the render settings' first page. Since I'm not sure of the priority system there, I always make sure that the 2 are disabled.

Thus the answer is that it's not the actual sun-sky system.

I used to know where those settings where, but my install of the Daz 4.10 is a nightmare, and I'm still in the middle of fixing it so I can't make you screen.

I hope it helped a bit.

yes..thank you. i found the headlamp in the render settings and turned off.

  • You can turn the headlamp off globally in Render Settings, no need to do it per-camera.

    How is that done?

Render Settings -> General -> Auto Headlamp.

  • 12 am is midnight  - 12pm is noon.

But I guess 12am in one place is 12pm in another.

I've never really bothered with the time-date/longitude-latitude settings - just use the sun-chain option to point the sun where I want it. But if you're going for a particular look in a particular place at a particular time, the settings are handy.
