Conforming clothing and hair from G3 to G8
in The Commons
Hi,
Whenever I try to auto-fit clothing and hair designed for G3 to G8, I get the same issue: It works just fine upon auto-fitting it the first time, but when I save the scene and close Daz Studio, something goes wrong: when I open the scene back up a day later to resume work, the hair or clothing loads in wrong: It looks like it thinks the G8 figure has either been scaled up a good 15% or been scaled down for the same amount... How do I make this work?
Many thanks,
Me

Don't autofit. Don't select the G8 figure and then load the hair as normal. Select the hair and go to the little bars at the top right of the pane and go to EDIT - SCENE IDENTIFICATION and scroll down to genesis 8 and then female, click ok and then you can fit it just like you would for G3 hair.
Will give that a try! Thanks! Will that also work on clothing?
Thanks a lot,
Me
Yep, sure does
I'm using Studio 4.10.0.123 on a Win 10 system. I don't think I have the problem 'Me' described and I use autofit on G8 figures all the time. But I am having an issue with one item in particular: Raw Guardian for G3M and F. When the figure is selected and I load the item as normal, the status window gets as far as "Building projection" at 22% and then just hangs there. The laptop grinds to a halt. I loaded it on G8F as a troubleshoot test. It reached the same point and Studio stopped responding... and I took a nap. When I woke up, it had loaded successfully, but my laptop is barely responsive. I wanted to try Michael's advice but I don't understand it.
"go to the little bars at the top right of the pane and go to EDIT - SCENE IDENTIFICATION." I assume the "little bars" refers to the pane context menu, but I've looked in every one and I don't see anything about Edit Scene Identification. What is he talking about?
I also don't get why the Supersuit is required to use it. (I have it.) It's more than a texture set, apparently, as you don't load the Supersuit first and then apply the Guardian to it. It loads independently. What am I misunderstanding?
Oh, that would make sense. Thanks, Quest. : ) (Or do you prefer 'Almighty'? lol)
Ok so it seems that the Guardian will eventually load onto G8M as expected, it just took well over 30 minutes and vast computer resources to do it. I have no idea why, but if it continues to drag the system down as I manipulate the scene, I'll let you know. I had rebooted the computer and restarted DAZ, so there shouldn't be any residual anything going on in the background. If anyone has any suggestions or explanations or theories, I'm all ears... Thanks all ))
Not sure why you don't have the option, but here is an image to show where it is
Thanks, Michael - I was hoping someone would do that. Sure enough, I was looking on the wrong pane. Have a great evening!
So I've been working with this suit now for a while, and no system issues other than the ridiculous load time. It's a mystery.
Hi,
I tried this method, but it doesn't work. Now the hair or clothing fits to G8 the way it used to after reopening the file: like my figure is about 15 percent bigger than it actually is... Could you perhaps post a screenhot of which field that needs to be changed to G8 female? Currently I used the "preferred base" field. (I clikck the 3 lines above the scene pane)
Are there any specifics I need to follow? I loaded the hair in the scene with nothing selected, changed the preffered base to G8 female and then right clicked on the hair and picked "fit to" and selected G8.
Thanks a lot,
Me
It worked pretty well!
Autofit has some annoying "side effects", like increasing the memory required for your characters up to 40 times! In my case, I was trying to fit Paisley Hair for G3F to a GF8, resulting in a character of 6,350KB instead of the 168 I finally got. What a good piece of advice!
Thank you, Michael
Best regards,
Paul
