Why would anyone want to create an image of your drive??

Not sure what you mean, I never said anything like that.

If you get a virus or other problem, the last thing you want is to start up another drive that might have the same problem. Just save the important data files, INCLUDING DOWNLOAD FILES OF ALL INSTALLED PROGRAMS, and if you have a  problem just go down the list of downloads and re-install from scratch. It's surprisingly fast. And keep a USB ISO of Windows if you must.

You create images of system drives before you expose them to environments with potential viruses, of course, and after having tested everything works allright. Among others the idea of using an image is to be able to restore to a clean system quickly in case of a virus attack. That said, if you behave sensibly the risk of getting a virus is small. I've been on the internet for over 24 years for hours almost daily as part of my work, often on several PCs (all Windows) at the same time. I've had a total of 3 (three) virus infections during that time, and none of them were serious.

It's much easier and faster to restore from an image than to first re-install windows, then all your software, and then maybe do a lot of configuration of different things.

If something happens, start up a new blank drive, install Windows via .iso file, plug in the data backup HD, re-install the important software, and you're ready to go.

Yes, but how much work and how much time does it take, compared to just restoring an image? Some of my systems take days to reinstall and configure. I have over 100 programs installed on the PC I'm sitting with here, used space on system drive is over 150 GB, that's without data (they're all on separate drives), just OS and software. But even if I had only a few programs to install I'd do it anyway.
