I'll quietly back out of this fray, but wanted to re-iterate that while your (@Ivy) response comment seemed to me to carry some 'tone', I was/am in agreement with your point - about being able to do more if you have the animate2 plugin - and you listed the very advantages that I also find most valuable in having/using that tool. I'd hoped that some extended explanation to those who might find this thread later (DS animation tools are hardly self-evident in their range and use), would clarify why such strong opinions exist with respect to the available tools we all work with. @Ivy, you have always been gracious and generous with your opinions and help/advice, and I probably could have found a better word than 'snarky'. apologies.
I'll add that while my personal use of Animate2 does include the broad range of its capabilities, I don't think I would continue to animate in DS without Animate2's simple ability to build and save snippits (tests, layers, utilities) as quickly-available aniblock libraries. I personally prefer this snippit-save workflow to the Pose-Preset/Scene-Subset scheme, but I use both when needed. Kind of like layers in PS or the simple cut/paste clipboard in most OSs - I guess I resonate with the GoFigure developers 'way' of doing things. Without all three tools: Animate2, Keymate, and/or Graphmate, I would probably only animate in Carrara or (gasp) IClone.
Also, no offense intended and best to all - we need more talented animators in here and cooperation/information seems to foster that energy.

my comments were not aimed at anyone but myself
I was genuinely ignorant of the capabilities of the free AniMate lite as it certainly was not always the case that you could bake key frames having experienced that limitation first hand in 4.1
I tested it with a friend without AniMate 2 on Skype and she confirmed that you can indeed bake key frames from AniBlocks with the free default version and save them as single or animated poses, I honestly did not know this.
