Separating Out Props?

There was a discussion* recently on model sets where the individual props could not be loaded separately. either rearranged in the set scene, or used in a different scene. A poster mentioned that there was a way to separate those props for use individualy. I should have immediately posted to ask for a how-to--but I didn't. Can someone please tell me how to do this?

Hmmmmm.... typically I just load the whole scene, then save the particular prop out as a scene subset.  After that, its readily available to load into another scene from my Saved Files.
