Question about interactive licenses

So, I know if you wanted to use a 3D resource to make, say, a video game, you'd need to purchase the interactive license because the asset appears in a way that it could potentially be extracted. I was wondering -- does this mean you can only use these resources in the construction of commercial projects? Merchant resources often specify that the asset can't be used to make freebies. Is that also true of interactive licenses? If someone wanted to create an application/game/mod/whatever and share it for free, would this violate the terms of the interactive license? (Do you have to SELL the application that the resource is used in?)

The sticking point is how your end product handles the models, so I believe you would still need the license. You're allowed to make a render of a product and give it away for free, but you couldn't buy a character asset and then give it to someone else for free so they could pose and move the character themselves. If you use a DAZ model as your player character you're basically doing that, because the game needs to load the 3D model itself. So the interactive license as I understand it is limited permission to do that for the purpose of creating a game.
This doesn't apply if you're using something like a 2D sprite, because you're not actually including the character model data in the game.
Allow me to clarify. If I was making a game, I know I need the interactive license. I get that. The question is about WHAT does the interactive license allow for?
Can I purchase the interactive license, use the asset to make a game/mod/app/whatever and then GIVE IT AWAY? Or must it be SOLD, as is the case with merchant resources?
Sorry about that, I misunderstood! Yes, you should be able to give your game away. As long as you're not creating products that are basically in competition with DAZ PAs, I don't think the same kind of restriction on merchant resources would apply.
As far as I am aware a game may be a freebie, as long as the items used are licensed (remember you need an Interactive Llicense only if the game includes the 3D data) and the data is protected to the current best practice.
Your best bet here is to file a support ticket and ask to get a definitive answer.
Both good answers. If I ever get off my butt and actually create something interactive, I'll file a ticket and make sure I'm not breaking any laws before giving anything away. I've had some ideas and I'm able to write the code, but I can't model my way out of a paper bag. If I was ever to complete a project, I'd need someone else's mesh and I'd need to give the whole thing away (for alpha and beta testing, at the very least) even if I did someday want to try something commercial (which is unlikely because I'm lazy and way too busy!)
Thanks!
Just one little point, from your original post. You say "create an application/game/mod/whatever and share it for free" You are not allowed to make Game mods with Daz products, only new games.
That was a brain-typo -- I definitely figured as much. (This seems to be a huge issue that many content creators are battling in terms of copyright violation!) Thanks for clarifying, though!
