Become a PA in Europe
in The Commons
Hi All!
I'm thinking of becoming a PA, but I live in Europe. I read the following point on the "Community Publishing" page:
If your product is accepted for a full review, you will be required to sign a Non Disclosure Agreement (NDA) and relevant tax forms.
Is there any PA that lives in Europe? Is it possible to become a PA if you live in Europe and be okay with taxation?
Thank so much

We have PAs all over; US, Canada, Europe, South Africa. Shouldn't be a problem.
The question is which status you, as a DAZ vendor, have in the eyes of the tax authorities in your country, when it comes to VAT. Are you responsible for charging this or is DAZ? If it's DAZ, they're not following the international agreements; whether that can get you into trouble I don't know. If it's you, it can get really complicated if not impossible because of the new VAT rules in the EU where you have to charge a different VAT percentage depending on which country the customer lives in. So you better ask your local tax authorities to avoid getting into trouble.
In general, the tax/VAT rules are in the process of being tightened and coordinated internationally right now, so things are probably going to change in the not so distant future so that eventually there will be charged sales tax/VAT on every sale in every store on the planet (well, at least in theory). This will hurt many small businesses as it will be so complex to deal with that you'll need a third party to handle it, which can be expensive (as usual, the bigger you are, the cheaper it gets per sale, and vice versa). Plus the retail prices will increase, of course.
You could try PM-ing one of the european PAS. Maclean is British but has said he lives in Italy, David Brinnen I know Is British (ok so not really european), Totte (who is a CV as well as a PA (code66) lives in Sweden - just 3 I can think of off hand who do visit the forums regularly
PS. I didn't mention Jack Tomalin cos I know he is busy with the PC+ sale at the moment
I'd suggest talking to a proper accountant in your own country.. but in general, your location isn't a problem in becoming a PA, you'll just have to tailor your tax etc to your specific country and it's rules.
Fist, what Jack said!
You fill in a taxform where you states that you have no other business in ther US, then you report the income as an income, and depending on which country you live in, the tax rules are completely different and so are the level of taxes.
The commission from DAZ is probably treated differently in different countries too. I live in Sweden, and the most important thing is to have a "small business" registrered, as otherwise the tax man can decide that DAZ should be responsible for paying your employer taxes. As a business, you declare the income as income to your business, and then your taxes are payed from that, and I know the brutto tax levels are very different between European countries, from the lowerst at 35% brutto tax to Sweden where it is about 75-80% brutto tax.
(Brutto tax = income tax plus employer tax and any other taxes you have to pay as a company on money that at the end ends up on your personal account).
As Chohole says, I'm Scottish and live in Italy. I've never had any problem with taxes. I'm registered as a freelancer, declare my income and pay the tax. Some things may depend on what country you're in. For example, the US and Italy used to have an agreement where 5% of the tax was withheld, and paid separately by DAZ to the Italian government, then deducted from what I paid. That agreement is no longer in force, but it may still be in other EU countries.
The country you live in doesn't really matter. Just follow the regulations of that country. DAZ will send you a statement showing your annual income, and you pay tax on it.
I live in Finland. I pay normal income tax (I’ve got a day job and it’s 26%) of my Daz income, which is considered as royalties or something similar. VAT is considered paid by the customer, when he/she buys the product. I could get away with lower taxes with the small company thing, but I’ll go this way for a while.

The U.S.A has a tax treaty with Switzerland. Daz 3D sends a copy to the Swiss tax authorities of what I made from sales (the alternative would be tax withhold 15% directly sent to Switzerland). I have to pay town, state and country taxes and I have to declare what I made. Cheating isn't a good idea because the country tax authority knows what I get and tells state and town authorities. There are are also social taxes and those authorities consider me as an employee of DAZ 3D and there is no treaty with this "employer" , which means that I have to pay my and Daz 3D's share. Since I'm meanwhile a retired old fart, I have a certain sum free and Bryce sets "luckily" don't sell in fantastic quantities and so I stay just below that limit. I don't know who purchases my stuff and have therefore no means to pay VAT, that's DAZ 3D's job.
