Two Renders happening again? [Solved]

Hi. This has happened before and I didn't get any answers but I'm on a brand new computer with an up to date OS and I'm still seeing two renders going on. I did a scene last night. It should have been done in 3 hours (but looking at the log my computer kept going to sleep, I think I've stopped that, it's a new OS a different settings) After realising I didn't like the direction of the eyes I started a spot render immediately after stopping the main render. I went out for an hour, when I got back the tiny snippet around the eyes was looking little better than after a couple of minutes. I looked at the log to check my computer hadn't got to sleep again but this time it appeared that the DS was doing two renders again. As before I only have on preview window which is in Iray and as usual it hasn't rendered anything during the spot render. It looks, from looking at the log, like it was continuing the main render from before. So, I cancelled the spot render and restarted DS. 

After restarting DS and loading the scene I'm doing the same spot render. It seemed to be going well then after 30 mintues I cam back expecting it to be finished it looks no better than after a couple of mintues again. The log file looks like DS is doing two renders still and as if it is still doing the render from last night. How, what's going on? It doesn't always do this. It's been really quick for a while. Even before I got my new computer renders were going really well apart from the odd glitch. 

 

I've attached the log file starting from the restart and in case anything thinks it will help I've attached a copy of the original, entire log file (the second one, on right)

    It's still happening after restarting both DS and my computer. How?

    I'd have expected after 17 minutes for the tiny render of the eyes to b finished, whereas it's only 11 iterations and still looks terrible. 

    I don't know what else to try other than shutting down the computer for a few minutes but you'd think that wouldn't make any difference compared to a restart.

    I shut my computer down for a few mintues and restared Daz. I was impatient so I changed two variables. I also send the scene to Lit Wirefram. The Spot Render to 2 minutes to get over 400 itterations which I find usually looks great.

    Now I've got my eye's I'll test doing a spot render in Iray preview mode.

    Well, there's my second render going on. It has to be the Preview Render despite it not looking as if there's any render going on.  Same problem as before. If this happened everytime I'd have noticed by now. Why is it intermittent? At least I know it isn't worth putting the render into Preview Iray mode before I start rendering especially a Spot Render. See log beloe and attachement of it taking over 4 mintues now to still look bad.

    [Solved] of sorts:

    For Brevity anyonw with the same problem!

    What to do: Put your Preview Pain into anything but Iray before you start a render.

    I was about to say it looks like you have the main window or preview set to Iray and what you are seeing is the main/preview window rendering as you are doing the spot render so you were actually doing two renders at the same time smiley  But you worked that out for yourself yes

    Well, yes it seems obvious now after spending 3 hours working out. :D (irony intended)  but I've read in a few places that it's best to start a render with the preview pane also in Iray mode because it speeds things up. But clearly not. And it's also not obvious because as you can see in the attachment above the preview pane is not rendering anything.

    You have to give the preview or main window time to re-draw every time a change is made. If you give it time before trying a spot render you will only see one render in the log.

    The render should stop any Iray previews fro processing, I thought - Might be worth a bug report to check it is behaving as intended https://www.daz3d.com/help/help-contact-us

    Thanks Richard, that's what I expected especially when you can't see it going on. It might explain a lot of my stubborn renders I've put down to other things.

    Thanks again Richard, it just shows how much bad information is on this forum. Nobody is perfect, we are all still learning. This is the reply I got from Tech Support. 

    The Iray Drawstyle is constantly rendering the scene, which is why the log file shows that two renders are happening simultaneously. Before you render, you may want to change the Drawstyle back to Texture Shaded.

     I have hardely ever not been in Iray when I started a render recently unless I'd happened to not think about it because of advice someone gave on the forum. You get to know who never to listen to though and who is right almsot all the time. :)
