Daz on a HiDPI Display
in The Commons
So I read that the Daz fonts and UI are small and hard to read on a native 4K display (3840x 2160). But what about HiDPI,a.k.a. Retina on Macs? This is basically keeping the physical screen size at 1920x 1080 but using a 4K display to double the dpi of normal 1080. Not the same as true 4K but should give a sharper display. Just for reference I am using Windows 7 on a PC and am considering getting a 4K display but running it in HiDPI mode. Does anyone do this? How does it work? Does this keep the UI at the normal size or does it shrink it too
Thanks!

I am using DAZ Studio on a 27 inch iMac with a 5K display. I can read the fonts without issue. That being said, the desk is 24 inches deep so I am somewhat close to the display. So a consideration (in my mind) is how big is the monitor and how far away is it. I hope this helps.
Just to confirm, you are talking about buying the 4k monitor, and downscaling the desktop resolution in windows to 1920 x 1080? This will not make it look any better than a normal 1080p monitor, if anything it will look worse. A while back i bought a QHD monitor (between 1080 and 4k), and downscaling the resolution to 1080 did not look good at all.
I tried Daz Studio on a 3000 x 2000 display on a MS surface running windows 10 a couple years ago. The UI was too small to be ideal, but being windows 10, it has functions you can use to increase the scale of UI in applications to compensate. Works to varying degrees depending on the program, and if i recall correctly it was still not ideal in Daz Studio.
If you are running on windows 7, i do not believe those options exist.
FWIW I am running DAZ Studio on a Dell Ultrawide curved monitor at 3440x1440 and have no complaints. In fact, I LOVE IT!
I am not sure if down scaling the resolution is the right way to describe it. Will still be using the 3140 x 2160 but in a smaller area. Basically this is doing Mac Retina but on a PC. This in effect doubles the pixel density. I think renders will look wonderful but my hang up is the Daz UI. I have read that Daz does not handle 4K well. Not sure about the Retina resolution though. I know Windows 10 has the scaling option but that is a work around and it’s not clear to me how well that works. Even at that I have a Windows 7 machine and not sure how the scaling works with that. So the hope is that everything looks and works fine at the Retina resolution.
