New Rendering Build

So I recently purchased a Ryzen 7 1700 and paired it with an X470 motherboard and a GTX 1070 from EVGA. I am trying to figure out they are worth upgrading to a Ryzen 7 2700 or 2700X and a RTZ2070.

  • Can your video card do Iray?

  • The DS 4.11 Public beta supports 20x0 cards, the current release build does not.

  • Yes it can do iray.

And I don't mind waiting on the next release before upgrading.

Upgrading your CPU would not grant much benefit. Upgrading GPU would offer the most bang. Now there are a couple things to consider. Are you talking about swapping the 1070 for a new card are using a 1070 plus a new card? This is important. A 2070 would not offer as big of a boost as running a 1070+2070. Since both cards have 8 GB, they would would work well together and combine their CUDA cores. VRAM does not stack, but CUDA does.

To compare your 1070 to other cards, there is a long benchmark thread in my sig. In that thread you can download a scene to bench, and compare that to other user's times. Then you can use that info to decide for yourself. Nobody has yet posted a 2070 time, but I think there is a 2080. I also made my own bench which is my sig as well. Do keep in mind that different versions of Daz can effect times.

The CPU upgrade would be an improvement, but so small to be only noticable in benchmarks.  UserBenchmark puts it at a 4% difference.

The GPU will offer a much bigger return, especially if you run both the 1070 plus a 2070.

  • Thank you all.
