My hair is really long

My hair has never been this long before. It's starting to go down my back. Does anyone have suggestions of what a man can use to make a "ponytail?!"

I've never attempted this before. I don't want to look silly.

elastic bands to tie it as opposed to pink ribbons should help :)

My dad had a ponytail for years and just used black elastic bands covered with small fabric and sometimes my rainbow ones. He wasn’t particular. Basically men use hairties just like ladies do. Any drugstore will have them. I would avoid plain elastic because it will tear your hair, the softer ones are better.

you can also google men’s hairties to give you ideas.

I've used this one for years, I just switch out the standard elastic hairties linked by others whenever the band needs replaced.  I picked it up at the local artist market in Pheonix about 15 years ago.

Thanks, everyone the link above took me to the UK version of Amazon. I can't seem to find the same item in the US side.

Any drugstore should have black hairties in the hair section. The clerk can help you find them.

That would look cool as a prop for G8M or G3M hair.

You’d need thick hair to pull it off otherwise the weight of the tie would make it go under the pony rather than over ask me how I know that.

I've always thought so too, but I don't have the foggiest idea on how to do the textures

Do NOT EVER use rubber bands in your hair, EVER.  It tears the hair strands.  I'm a hairdresser and believe me I've seen some messed up hair from folks using good old fashioned rubber bands to tie back their hair.  As above posters like Cho have linked you to, those cloth covered ones are what anyone should be using.  If your hair isn't very thick then get the smallest you can find, should keep it from sliding out off of the hair.

I have very thin hair, and it's getting thinner every day! Maybe I'll just let it go naturally!

Buy an inexpensive set of clippers with attachments and clipper it down to a reasonable length.  That's what I do.  No muss, no fuss!

I've tried that before and made a mess. In November I'll go get a real haircut. I like having a strange woman run her fingers over my hair!

That's what I do also. I had hair down to my butt for 25 years while I was a musician and then stopped doing that and changed jobs and decided it was time....snip!

It's amazing how easy it is to take care of with the clipper method and the amount I save on hair products and trips to the salon now, LOL

I did a few Drunken Haircut videos on YouTube years ago. I really made a mess of my hair. I just get all confused and fumble around.

You might be going about this the wrong way. Gather it together, whip it around the side, and use it as a comb-over. Nobody will ever notice.... I promise.

My favourite drunken haircuts are when my brother visited me a few months ago and we got drunk and I shaved my head.... cheeky laugh

Ok. How do you know that? laugh

For someone like me with a hairline heading west, the most sensible, and less ridiculed solution would be to keep it short. Even Bruce Willis couldn't pull off the shaven head disguise of his baldness.

As for a guy with a pony tail.... get real. Ten year old school girls already have that look sewn up.

I noticed I was thinning on top and decided screw it and  just buzzed it all down to nothing, much easier to take care of and doesn't get caught in anything, cooler in the summer, but much colder in winter...

Buzz is good. You save lots of time in the shower and in front of the mirror in the morning.

I like ponytails, but only for thick or 'normal' hair. For thinning or 'almost gone' hair imo a very short cut looks best - in almost any case.

Thanks for helping me decide. I'll get a haircut next month.

My younger Brother was a biker all his life and wore a pony tail until it got to the stage where his beard and ponytail ran in a line round his head as his hair receded, and people started giggling,  then he cut his hair and neatened his beard a bit.
