Q? ABOU POSITIONING A FIGURE IN A SCENE

Hello all! I'm back again with another  (most likely silly and previously answered) question... Is there a way that once you have a huge  scene, let's say, Urban Spawl 3, loaded into Daz Studio that you can then load a figure on a choesen street corner or any specific location with out having to drag it all the way from the center of the scene where all default figures and objects load into the scene... I hope I have made sense. And I do apologise if this has been answered else where. As always thanks in advance...

  • It won't help with elevation, but you can load a figure relative to a temporary origin (which is usually wheer the figure loads - hold down the alt key (Windows) or opt key (Mac) while dragging an item from a content pane and you will get a target icon on the ground, when you release the mouse and then the modifier key your figure or prop will load relative to that, as it normally would relative to the origin.

  • You have to know where "there" is, that is the coordinates of where you want the character to go.  Then you just edit the x,y,z coordinates to match in the parameters tab.  I generally stick nulls at the locations I want to put the character, parent the character to the null, then 0 the coordinates of the character to get it to the null.  You could just copy the coordinates of the null into the parameters of the character.  Either method works.

If you don't know the coordinates of the location you want to put the character, you are pretty much stuck with "search out, discover, and land"

You can also use the Align pane with the null as the fixed point (first selected).

For those large scenes with camera presets, I just find the closest camera coordinates and enter it for my character. Then fine tune from the camera.

Thanks everyone for the replies! Thanks Richard, you advice did exactly as you saidhowever then I couldn't load any hair or clothing to my character once I dragged them to my desired location. I'm sure it's something I am doing wrong but even though I have been with DAZ STUDIO for may years now that doesn't mean I am an expert by NO means. lol. I am still very much a novice. But I think the best option for mean is to use Jazzy's. Yes I still have to fiddle with it a bit and some place do not always have a camera where I would like it but it does get me closer to where I want my figure to be than just having to constantly twirl dials forever and a day to get  them where I want them. THANKS AGAIN EVERYONE, as always, Mickey...

I find this script indespensable in DS. It brings any object in front of the selected camera.

Once the base figure is loaded where you want it any fitted or parented items should just snap to it, no need to use the modifier for those. You do, however, need to bear in mind that Iray seems to throw odd artefacts if the rendered area is away from the origin - I assume that's an Iray issue.
