It's Raining Men Contest is Currently Seeking Supporters

Seeking prize donations for the Annual It's Raining Men Contest

Hello everyone. It's almost time for the annual It's Raining Men Contest. What is this contest you may ask? Only one of the hottest contests celebrating the male figure on the Daz3d forums. It started as a little post complaining and bemoaning the fact Michael and his friends didn't get any love by way of products. That thread took off in ways the original poster had no idea would happen. It spawned a movement. In response to the thread, the contest was originally created by the forum mods as a challenge to the Daz community to show they did indeed love the male figure. They scraped couch cushions for prizes and had a few donations by people who believed in the contest.

Those mods were overwhelmed at the record number of entries in the challenge. You can see those entries in the list of links below. The prizes were donated by forum members and PAs alike and the whole challenge was a blast to be a part of.

The following year forum members wanted the contest to continue. It was run by forum members this time with prizes again donated by both forum members and PAs who all believed in the contest. While we didn't get as many entries as the first year, we had a great turnout and the contest was deemed a success. Then last year, we had the Third Annual It's Raining Men Contest and it was held in the Art Studio. While there was grumbling and a belief the contest would die by being hidden in a forum few dare to travel, it was still a huge success. It would not have been possible without the kind and generous donations made by both forum members and our wonderful PAs who saw the value of the contest. Each year, our prize package has grown thanks to the kindness of those who donated.

I am here seeking the support of community members and PAs again as I gear up for running the Annual It's Raining Men Contest yet again. Yes, it will be held in the Art Studio. Yes, it will begin on November 1 and run until December 31 again.

Please consider supporting our contest by donating what you can to the prize pool. If you wish to donate, please PM @Knittingmommy so we can disscuss your donation. Any amount is welcome. Last year, we had an amazing prize package and I'd love to see that happen again.

PAs, please contact me if you would like to donate from your stores. I would be honored to assist you in helping to support our contest.

This contest will again be a Daz3d sponsored contest. For those new or unfamiliar with the contest, I've provided the links below so you can look back at previous contests and the wonderful entries we have had. These links are borrowed from the Michael and Friends thread that L'Adair manages to keep up to date with all things male related. :)

Thank you.

  • Thank you to the PAs and forum members who have already pledged donations. I really appreciate it. I forgot to mention that I take donations all the way up until the end of November so there is still time if anyone decides later to add to the prize list.

@Knittingmommy, If a forum member donates a prize, does that make them ineligible to enter/win?

I have the same question as L'Adair. I'd love to both donate and participate :D

I don't think so, I was able to both donate and participate last year.

    Also want this answer.

I think you're probably right, but I want confirmation from @Knittingmommy, as she's running the contest again this year.

Oh what the hey... I'll donate something. its about I give something back! :)

  • I'll donate any character set except for the ones split with other PAs and the one DO I have (Scion).  Everything that is just by me- is open for grabs.

  • Sorry for not getting back to this question earlier. If someone donates, yes, they can still participate in the contest.

Also, this year there is going to be a special prize for the best render done by a PA. I'm donating that prize myself. I've had a lot of fun with some of the PAs around the forums and it's my little way of giving back a little. The PAs won't be competing against the average forum user in the main categories. They will be competing against other PAs if they decide they are up to the challenge.

It has also been suggested that we have a category specifically for newbies who might feel intimidated about entering the competition. I'm considering it. I'll be figuring out all of the categories this week and I'll post the proposed categories list we'll be working with this year so people have an idea of what's happening with the contest and how it will work.

If you have any further questions, just ask. :)

Do the renders have to be new?

Do the renders have to be new?

Assuming the rules are the same as last year, the entries need to be new renders. Here's a link to the rules from last year.

  • Do the renders have to be new?

Yes. The renders have to have been not posted anywhere before the contest starts November 1. You can still enter any Daz contests during the run of the contest with your entry after it's been posted to the It's Raining Men Contest entry thread once it's made, if the other contest allows. You can also post to your Daz Gallery and/or DA gallery. You can't enter a render you did this month, or last year, and posted somewhere before the start of the contest. All entries must have been created during the months of November and December of 2018.

You can post to other galleries as long as they aren't a competing store gallery. We opened that up a little last year so people could post to their DA galleries. You can't post to a gallery associated with any Daz3d competitors since the contest is sponsored in part by Daz3d. If you want to post to another site run by a competitor, you need to wait until the contest is over before you post it there.

Is it okay to have a female in the scene as a minor character, where the male is the main focus? For example, a scene with a man holding or playing with his small child/infant in the foreground, with his wife/partner smiling on from the side/behind., perhaps over his shoulder but at a distance, (a few feet away, if it were real life.)

Yes, as long as the male figure is the focus of the image, females and babies can be supporting characters.

@DarwinsMishap  I know we talked in PM, but I wanted to make sure you knew I saw this.

Just a heads up to all donors, I'll be getting in touch with all donors this week to finalize donations and categories. Thank you all for sponsoring the It's Raining Men Annual Contest. For anyone else interested in donating but are on the fence, I will continue to take donations up until the end of the contest. Thank you.

  • No problem, KM. ;)

  • Hi everyone. I'm working on the post to start the It's Raining Men contest. The contest starts soon and I'm working hard to get everything ready.

I've had several people offer to donate and I'm happy to say the prize packages are as good as last year. We have some new categories and I thought I'd list the categories we'll be working with this year. I'm still waiting back to here from a couple of donor as to how they want to spread out their donations so I thought posting the tentative categories would help them out.

Main Categories which will have public voting:
    1st place
    2nd place
    3rd place
    Best, Original Re-Purposed entry

Categories not open for open voting:
    Best Quirkiest Image
Best Entry by a Forum Newbie
    Best entry created in Carrara
Best Entry by a Daz3D PA (published artist)

For people offering to donate a Daz gift card, might want to pay attention to gift card sales in the store.  I'm sure there will be several between now and the end of "Its Raining Men."  I buy the gift card as myself as the recipient.  When the time comes, I send the code for the gift card to the recipient.

  • Sorry for the slight delay. I always get paranoid that I've forgotten a donation or misspelled something or possibly left out some important bit of information. However, the thread is posted and the contest can now begin. Please check out the It's Raining Men contest thread. It's now posted in the Art Studio along with an Entry thread.

I will continue to take donations up until the end of the contest. Please post any further talk about the contest in the main contest thread in the Art Studio.

    Thank you.
