ERC freeze how to set it to 'zero'

Maybe the title is misleading. The problem I have is twofold. I created a bridle, rigged it and now want to add master dials. Normally I can use ERC freeze to set the movement. However, when I try to use it with the bridle I have two problems... first I get an enormous list of sub components from which I have to pick the ones I really want to set... even AFTER Zeroing and Memorise pose. How do I get all these subcomponents do 'disappeare'?image

Second... maybe linked to the first problem: I pick all components and freeze them. Now when I look at the rigging it has gone all wonky, all bones from the bridle have flipped ...image

I can get them to go back into alignment by clicking the back button but it's annoying like heck and the bones on the rein remain out of line. So what is going on here? It can't be that I missed a component as I have done it with all rein elements, and several times and it always happens.

I've also tried to see what happens when unchecking the three checkboxes at the bottom of the ERC freeze menu and then the freeze doesn't work at all. The bones move but not the rein.

Does anybody know what is going on? Did I miss some crucial step in the rigging process?

  • I suspect you had adjusted the bones from their default position on creation, but not memorised the rigging (not the same as memorising the figure - it's a command in the Joint Editor right-click menu). The problem is, the boens were memorised in their default position so they now see the changes you made as adjustments to be included in the ERC Freeze (which just lists everything that is not at its default value), and then when you click Accept the bones are set back to their (unwanted) default position. Memorise you rigging and I think the issues will go away.

  • yeah!!! That did the trick. Took care of both problems. Now my day looks a lot brighter as I can finally finish my bridle :D
