OT..... problems setting up new hotmail account

I setup the new account, and when I tried to answer an email, I could not do so.

I was told "confirm" the email.

Seems I have to give my phone number, but it has to be to a smart phone, so I can get a text with a code number, which I then enter somewhere... and I can't find a plave to enter the code number.....

Help someone..... this is just a grade A pain.

I never had any trouble getting an email account before... way too complicated now.

Thanks.

  • In the UK a text message to a landline will work, at least to a BT landline (it gets read by a machine).

Check to see if it gives you a voice option which many of them do or use a 2nd email address.

Thanks, I will check all that.

No luck with a text on a land line.

And no voice option I can find.

Also.... where is the code entered? I still can't find that. I had to go to a friend with a smartphone and got a code but found no place to enter it.

Well, I've had the problem you have too as I am loathe to give out me cell phone number to any online entity.

Microsoft has program called the "Microsoft Authenticator" that works on Android & iOS check to see if they have it for Windows 10 as well.

Also, you might try signing up for Google Voice is it's still available. It can send & receive text messages on iPhone and Android (Google Voice App) or via a web browser using Google Services once you sign into your Google account.

Thanks. I finally was able to sort out all that.

All this became necessary because I forgot the password of my original hotmail account. And all I did to recover that email account was not recognized by hotmail.

For example, I was asked about Skype and when I used it, with whom.... and I used it for one person from what I can remember... long ago. Now all my emails going back to 2000 is not available, and I had a lot of info stored there. It really is a terrible system.

Any help in that area would also be very appreciated.

    Thanks.
