DIM uninstalled itself

Today I turned on my computer and found DIM uninstalled as the DIM icon was blank and apparently it was not there anymore, so I has to reinstall DIM.  Why would it uninstall without my premission?

The simple answer is that it wouldn't.  What OS do you have?

May not be the issue but I recall reading that Win 10 had uninstalled someones's 3rd party AV software as it decided it was 'not known'.  Whatever did the uninstall (if it was system-based) nay have left a trail in the event log, if iit was DIM shooting itself in the foot it may have put an entry in it's log - assuming that the log is retained after uninstall!

    I am told

Install Manager, the application proper, does not uninstall itself. Ever. Even during an auto-update of the application it isn't Install Manager proper that uninstalls the existing version, it is the new version's installer that locates the existing version's uninstaller and executes it if found... same as if you had downloaded the new version's installer and manually executed it.

It wasn't Install Manager, so looking to it's log would be a waste of time.

Don't want to go down a rabbit hole or derail anyone's train of thought but, on that basis could a newer version (based on I have no idea what version was installed ...) performed said uninstall then failed to complete it's own install?  And yes, I know that would not have happened all by itself, and would that be logged?

What causes DIM to forget my email address so I am unable to login without creating a “new account” in DIM?

What causes DIM to forget my email address so I am unable to login without creating a “new account” in DIM?

it could be one of several things

An *.ini file in %AppData%/DAZ 3D/InstallManager/UserAccounts being deleted/denied/corrupted/quarantined/etc by an OS update, or a backup restoration gone awry, or overzealous anti-virus/anti-malware, or an overzealous "cleaner" application, or machine account permissions issues, or...     or.....

Don't know about that, but about creating a new account: since you aren't allowed to edit the account you are using when in DIM, you can make a dummy account with a phoney e-mail (as long as it fits a valid e-mail format like [email protected]), switch to that user, stay offline, and then edit the original account details to get it back the way it was.
