Heads up about a potential PayPal issue (issue is in their system, not Daz's fault)

Mine was a combination of what was left of my Daz store credit and the small remaining balance (the part that was cancelled) was from my Paypal credit.

It’s a random check. I’ve had it happen twice, it will clear eventually,

I think with this many people reporting it at the same time, it's a little too prevalent to be just the random checks. The agent I talked to said it was something in the order itself that triggered it. At a much bigger site, then maybe it could just be the random checks, but Daz doesn't pull enough transactions for this many to get hit with faulty random checks. I'm leaning towards it being keywords PayPal considers questionable, with a high percentage of them showing up at once because of the sale on products with the words in their name. Especially from a smaller site like this. It's the kind of thing that a human being in the loop of the decision wouldn't make if they looked at all at the case, but an automated system doesn't have the intuition to look at Daz's history and see that it's legitimate. My reason for posting was mostly to let Daz know they might be having a major issue with PayPal starting up. One that could affect their ability to use any of the big credit card processors. If PayPal sees enough what they consider fraudulent charges, they can and will blacklist a company and report them as being fraudulent, which will go to the other processors as well..

  • The Rapture poses were in my order, too.  The only other thing was a gift card.

My cancelled Paypal order contained the Rapture Poses as well.

    Mine too! How weird!

With this many people having the same problem with the same item in the order, it really sounds like the keywords are what did it.  Probably the sudden upswing in transactions with them in them from a smaller site.  Daz is still big enough and been established long enough that the filters at PayPal should not have triggered, but I don't know how they have them set up.

Me as well. That's a weird word to home in on though.

Edit: Nevermind. I know exactly why it was tagged.

  • Yep this happened to me last week also.  I, too, had some Rapture items.  The new G8 poses and an Iray adonn I believe.  Had to do a walkaround given by support.  I didn't get the notice until the day after I made the purchase.  Guess I'll have to look at the names of items in my cart before I buy from now on lol.

Care to share with the rest of us? Is it the drug reference I was thinking?

Among things that rapture can refer to, one is... "adult" oriented and Paypal has a no adult content policy.

Huh, hadn't heard of that one, but I can see where it would trip their trigger.

I'd say this is even more worrying as a seller.  Does this mean we have to be careful what we name stuff, or else Paypal will effectively rob us of sales?  Wow.

Well, it's only just Monday, so let's see if the Daz folks will be able to get this resolved some how.

I always thought rapture referred to something religious (and when I googled it, that’s what I found.) I wonder if PayPal bans all orders from Renderotica... (I’ve never shopped there.) And it’s funny, I saw in  a catalogue my parents’s get for medical and other needs for seniors certain sexual items for sale, I wonder if they ban those LOL.

Unfortunately, I don't know that there is anything Daz can resolve in this case to keep it from happening again.  PayPal has always been pretty prudish in what they'll allow, and from what I've heard they are getting worse now.  I'm hoping this was just an odd confluence of events that led to it happening, and it's not something to wrorry about going forward.  But if PayPal is going through transactions tight enough for one or two words to set them off, it's not a comforting sign.  If they continue in this track, I'll be ending my relationship with PayPal.

There have been several sites recently that have really cracked down. DeviantArt has also had a "great purge" recently. A lot of images there violate the TOS (and always have) but the last few months, they've been really cracking down and going back and getting rid of them. But PayPal also recently made some changes about the way they bill (you should have gotten an email or notice when you logged in), so for now I'll set it to the "warming up" phase of a new system. When big changes are made, there's always kinks to work out.

DA is going overboard from what I've seen, several of the artists I follow there have had stuff removed that don't violate the TOS.  It looks like they're getting bad about just automatically deleting anything that gets a complaint, and there are groups going around finding anything that doesn't fit their moral compass (including simple bikinis, or even nude 3d art in general.  But they are focusing on revealing artwork, ignoring the super violent stuff that's all over the site) and mass reporting them.  Now, if it breaks the TOS, then by all means report it and take it down, that's what the TOS is for.  But it's reaching abusive points for some of the artists over there with the constant reporting and invalid takedowns.  It is also not being applied evenly at all.  One bright point is it's starting to push competitors to DA to get set up and running, but that is taking time.

If it's PayPal's screw up, make sure and contact customer support here at Daz, they'll work with you to make it right

This happened to me back in June. It caused me no end of stress. But, Daz Customer services were brilliant.

I can only assume it was because I placed an order on a big shopping site, then bought a load of items from Daz (unless it is a random check like SereneNight suggests). Which doesn't happen very often at all.

I've never had an issue with buying items from Renderotica through Paypal.

PayPal messed up an adobe order for me.  They are holding the funds but will not give it to Adobe or me.

i am also having issues with amazon pay but that is another topic.

Today I have an issue with Paypal too..
They overcharged me after the payment was done..

    $21.89 showing at payment page.
Then I validated the payment on PayPal page which showed the same amount
(after change rate applied in Euro)

Finally, after payment.. I checked my.. Order receipts in my PayPal account or even DAZ3D account ...
And that showing $221.45 instead of what I payed (logically)

Holy Sh*t.. What a nasty glitch.

    Uh..
Yeah.. Of course I already contacted DAZ3D support.
    They didn't yet answer.

I don't know if the glitch is PayPal side (api/token/some API requests call not made properly by PayPal Side), or DAZ3D store, but, one of twos are the culprits.

Again.. That's.. a Nasty, very nasty glitch..
Even not logic after validated my payment of $21.89... that showed in receipts a total value of $221.45

    Wow.

EDIT: some sentences not clear are now more clear.
