You see a new product and really like thge hair, or some clothes. Then you ask .."what hair is that" . You get aq link and find out you ALREADY PURCHASED IT !!
I do that a lot actually.
But the thing is, how can you really remember what you have...or how do you see something and just know, all the time, that you have it?

I remember what I have (mostly) because I installed it maunually and know the location it's in so when I need to load it i don't use smart content, I search for it thru the folder system and know where it's located. Might take a second longer but I see it and all the other content around it and where they are for future reference also.
I put everything into custom categories so I have a pretty good idea of where something would be, but I still do it quite a bit lol. I just have too much stuff!
Yeah, still get surprised to discover I own some of the products used in promo pictures. I sometimes buy stuff even if I don't need them just because they go 90-95% off. I think I haven't even used more than 20% of my product library.
About twice an hour ...
All the time... all of the time!
At least weekly!
Quite often ;)
very often
+ 1!
Not often due to my installation, which have lots of custom folders. However, there is a lot of content and I am still discovering characters I've never used - mostly V4 era now, and at least no longer any G3.
wish there were an easy way to catalog everything... suppose possible with good directory and file structure.
If you set up your own, do you then use Content Library more than smart content?
It's not quite as embarrassing as forgetting to log in and putting stuff in your cart you already have.... multiple times.
I just assume I have it. Solves that problem. (and I spend less money because I don't go looking to see if I DO)
I never use Smart Content. But yes, when you create custom categories, Content LIbrary is your friend. You go to Categories and everything you've organized is there, nice and tidy. :)
I also use custom categories. they are especially useful for older content, as you can move textures and items together into a common category, rather than going bonkers over searching them in the content library. It's also very helpful as I can move poses into subfolders of, say architectural elements they were made for.
I've hit the point where I have no clue what's in my library. I can sort-of keep track of what I've bought directly from DAZ and rendo by using the DAZ deals browser and Taosoft's various utilities, but between all the BOGOs I've picked up at Rendo over the years, the huge amount of stuff I bought at RDNA, Poserworld and Content Paradise's first website, and all the freebies and promos I've gotten off the web and via magazines, I'm always finding things that I've forgotten about. I had constant problems with the old version of custom categories crashing, but thankfully the newer version has been pretty solid for me and I hope to one day get it all organized. Unfortunately, I just outgrew the 4T hard drive I've had my content on for the last few years so now I'm going to have to redo a lot of what I've already done. :( ..
at least once a day
I've never used Smart Content and hopefully will never have to....
maybe thats why I'm confused all the time .. using that smart content thing. it changes what you see... i want to see everything when i want to.
Me too!
Never use smart content as it contains the DRM code. If it didn't contain that I would still (I suspect) be unlikely to use it; I just prefer using the system I have.
I will never have to. The day that becomes the only way is the day Daz gets my last penny.
Smart Content does not use DRM. Some Connect content did have DRM encryption but none have it now.
I, too, have many thousands of content items and have been very frustrated in not really knowing what resources I already have when I'm planning a new scene. It's sort of like going to your public library and finding that all the books are stored randomly on the shelves (or in boxes!), their book jackets have been removed, and the only "catalog" is a simple list of book titles.
I had put in a Product Request for a "Purchased Product Catalog/Gallery" a few years ago: https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/67396/purchased-product-catalog-gallery . That idea didn't seem to get much traction at the time, but it looks like I'm not alone in needing something much more comprehensive to help manage content. This is a significant opportunity for a software developer.
Which is not quite as bad as saving up for a couple of weeks for something you've seen around and know you need now, only to look up the item once you've got the money together and find it decorated with the great big red 'PURCHASED' sign that indicates it's already sitting in your runtime. I think I've only done that once though :)
This happens to me sometimes.
Part of it is not having a content storage system that works well for me. A lot of it is that pose, render, and finishing of promo images matter a lot. I often see promo pictures that I don't like, only to be drawn in by gallery images, which, to my eyes, show the product in a more appealing way.
The new Ravi character for Genesis 8 Male made me do that the other day. Skin, morphs and just everything.... Totally a WOW moment!
