Light animations

Is is me, or is the light animation one of the strangest ducks in the pond?  I need some advice... this is 3Dlight BTW

1.  I save a light animation (varying only intensities frame to frame).  While the animation loads in a different scene, I only get the end point!  All other animation keys are lost in between.

2.  I save a single light to take from one scene and place in another, and the moment I do, ALL the lights in the second scene are replaced by the one (all other lights lost) I just saved!

Maybe I'm just in a hole, but what did I miss?  Can someone clear this up?  THANKS ALL!!!

2. hold down the ctrl key (cmd if using a Mac) when you double-click the preset and you will get an option dialogue in which you can choose to add the lights to the scene, rather than have them replace the existing lights.
