Vistas of Wonder - how to place stuff

I'm on the fence for buying Vistas of Wonder.

How does this work? It's just plain background Images, if I interprete it right. If I want to place something in this landscape, how can I do this an still getting the proportions right? How not to give the impression that everything is slightly floating?

Close-up portraits would be easy, as the point where they are standing can't be seen ...

Try switching the ground from auto positioning to manual. Usually just doing that does the trick but if it doesn't adjust the Y positioning until it looks right. Usually only a tenth of a point or so.
