Asking FaceGen Artist Pro users

If this topic needs to be moved to a different location I will understand the move and sorry I didnt know where to post.

I downloaded FaceGen demo and tried with Genesis 2 and Genesis 1.

Genesis 2 is showing severe lacrimal distortion along with eyelash distortion everytime.

I tried again with Genesis 1 and didn't get the eyelash distortion but did get the larimal distortion.

anyone else having this issue? Does Genesis 3 have this issue?

  • I am interested in buying the FaceGen Artist Pro version. If Genesis 3 does not have this issue I will buy!

the eyes and mouth usually get distortions, so will need sorting in another app, or, i believe there is a free app available that will do a pretty good job of fixing the distortion issues.

    hope it helps :)

Hello, thank you I just tried your utility, I see how it works but it does not default the shape of the lacrimal. Would you please consider updating your utility to include the lacrimal? Eyelashes too if possible.

I have a few render that use FaceGen althought they have been 'cartoonified' somewhat you can use to help you decide. These are all Genesis 8 so that's 5 characters all using FaceGen but maybe the lacrimals aren't big enough to see the problem you are looking for.

Is there anyway I can talk you into loading a few of those characters and looking at the lacrimal and eyelash?

Sure, which ones? It'll have to wait til tomorrow though as a render is runinng. I don't know what you are looking for but the lacrimals are problems if the wrong UV map is chosen. The lacrimals are located on the 'eye socket' Surface in Genesis 3 & Genesis 8 and lococated on the lacrimal surface on Genesis as well, but I'm not sure, on Genesis 2.

I see no lacrimal distortion in my Genesis 3 Face Gen Pro results, but both Genesis 3 and 8 still have eyeball distortion. While it is not so bad as to be unusable, perfectly circular irises and pupils are out. I haven't tried any free fixes for it.

The perfectly circular irises and pupils are missing from the non-FaceGen DOs too although I never compared the two side-by-side.

  • Fg is definitely worth it. The eyeball correction utility seems to work well.
  • another option would be to redo the morph as an obj import in morphloader and use the attenuate function  to isolate morphs either not including the eye parts or alternatively doing each eye part as a fix by dialing in -100% then re-exporting the obj for another go.

I don't own it but the Xmorphs product can also do this

When exporting for G2 you need to mind which UV you are targeting. I recently accidentally target the female uv and things were not lining up when I setup the character. that said I've had no such distoritions issue with the pro version at all.

If you set a morph as Favorite (little heart icon), go into geometry editor, switch to ‘select vertices’.

Select the eyes (Or whatever), then right click in view and select ‘remove selected vertex from deltas of favorites’ or something like that.

It removes the effect of the morph on those vertices.

Check it looks ok, then resave the morph.

OK, here are screen shot of the 5 facegen faces 'cartoonized' using the DAZ Originals Head & Body morphs for Genesis 8. The are in Viewport Textured Shaded (basically a very fast openGL render mode) preview mode so you'll see some artifacts that disappear when rendered in iRay both in the eyes & the face. I used the latest version of FaceGen Artist Pro 2.+ and saved the morphs only to Genesis 8.

    Artifacts:

Fred - none that I saw in the lacrimals but a couple in the sclera but they don't render as visible in iRay

Ester -  none in the eyes but you can tell for her face I did not find a good source picture to use, but it renders better in iRay then in preview where some of those face artifacts go away

Lamont - I had to replace his mouth materials (Tyrone for Darius 8 - the materials for that product were 'chromatic' but that is now causing a bug in DAZ Stduio 4.11.+ so I used Brute 8's mouth materials)

    Officer Reed - no problems

Officer Mally - the winked eye, well it's a problem with even unmorphed DAZ Originals eyes sometimes that making the eye look 'side to side' as far as they'll go in either direction will cause a bit of poke through of the sclera with the lower eyelid but when you enlarge the eyes to 'toonify' them and make the eye wink or squint or whatnot that makes it worse. For some reason though in iRay that poke through doesn't render that I've noticed

So there you have 5 different source photos of different people used with FaceGen to make 5 different Genesis 8 morphs. I only saw a problem that might of been FaceGen related regarding Fred Sanford regarding eye problems & that had nothing to do with lacrimals but the sclera problems might of been poor source photo related and so the geometry of the Fred morph wasn't quite the right fit for Genesis 8 Male. They all could of been improved if I have better source photos to make the morphs with, especially Aunt Ester but I really can't blame that on FaceGen Artist Pro.
