Upgrading/Changing Systems, etc.
Hello everyone, new user here!
I was sent over here from the iClone 7 forums. They recommended this software to me since it will be much better for my intended use(screenshots for terrain, structures, character poses, non-animation stuff, etc.) and a lot cheaper.
I currently have an Alienware 17 laptop that has Win7 Ultimate, i7-4700MQ CPU @ 2.40 Ghz(quad-core cpu /w Haswell architecture), 16Gb RAM, NVidia GTX 765M /w 2Gb VRAM. The screen is a TN panel using 1920x1080 resolution. How well should I expect the IRay stuff to work on my system?
When I get my new Win10 Pro system later on down the road, what will I need to do in order to have it on my desktop? Would I have to remove it from my laptop first? Or will I be able to have it loaded on both systems, just as long as I'm not trying to run them both at the same time? I certainly don't want to have to buy content twice, and I would be more than happy to remove it from my laptop since the new desktop will have a much more powerful NVidia card in it.
After checking out the site & the content, all I can say is I'm impressed! I like the idea of being able to purchase ready-made stuff at a reasonable price and add my own touches to it. Trying to make all of this stuff from scratch is well beyond my current abilities! Once I get this installed on my system, its just a matter of learning how everything works.

The GTX 765M may not do an awful lot for rendering in Iray - 2GB isn't going to fit many textures, so it will probably tend to drop back to CPU unless you resize them (manaully, using oen of the free scripts, or with Sceen Optimiser).
You should be able to simply install on the desktop system.
You can run an external GPU but setting this up is a pain and does not work for all laptops. I would do as suggested >> buy a cheap Desktop PC with a PCIE slot and install a Nvidia 1070 video card or higher depending on your budget. Running Iray on a laptop is not a good Idea in either iClone or Daz Studio.
