Making old work with new

I'm converting lots of older V4 stuff to work with G8F... It's lile peeling a banana by foot... which I've done.\.

Ever make home madenoodles? One old test to see if it's coled is by throwing a strand atthewall. If it sticks, it's cooked.

Just like my brain right now.

I hope that stain comes off...  The wall over myPC looks preety weird as it is.

Edit - because it came off as rude when it meant to be teasing. :)

I love converting older content to new Iray ready and dForce ready. It's a lot of fun to see some of the older gems get polished up. Although some of it, no matter how much you do to it, just won't polish. lol Much of it does clean up quite nicely though! And it's fun to do, imo. :)

It can be pretty challenging to convert older stuff.  Victoria 4 had some of the best and funky characters which you just don't see anymore.  I'm currently working on converting Arki's old Qabbalah set (which disappeared with when Runtime DNA closed) - there's a character with semi-transparent skin with an inner skeleton and veins showing through.  Pretty serious stuff.  When you have lots of maps for special effects like that, it takes a little while to figure out where to put them in Iray.  Just converting the surfaces is only the beginning.

    Whoops, you're right!

I think it was the Megawing Bundle that is defunct.  You can get the Qabbalah wings in this bundle - but they are dynamic... I will have to try them with dForce.

That's a nice texture, Ikyoto .  Can you post a render?  Maybe I can help you figure it out.  I'm assuming you are trying to convert Victoria 3 and not updating it to Victoria 8 (that's additional fun)!

Here are examples of my current efforts to convert Arki's Lilithai Strigoia to Genesis 8 Female.  I'm using Legacy UV's for Genesis 8: Victoria 4.  In my working scene I have Victoria 4 with the original textures loaded in 3DL materials, and Genesis 8 with the Legacy Geographs converted to Iray.  I found it's easier to manually load the maps on a figure that already has the Iray materials, especially when working with specialized V4 characters.  Then I can go in and manually adjust the Iray surfaces to get it to look good.  Sometimes I take the bump maps into Photoshop and create a Normal map, since these older models typically don't have Normal maps.

As you can see here, I've got the lips looking the way I want, but probably need a Normal map to get some texture on the forehead.  I may take the face texture in Photoshop, desaturate it then erase everything but the forehead, increase contract and pop that into Displacement and see how that looks.  There's lots of experimentation involved.

I'm trying to get the scale texture but it's not looking the way I want it to yet.  I added some metallic flakes and that helps.

The claws for V4 don't work on Genesis 8, so I turned off the Cutout Opacity and used a morph for claws.

I'm still working on getting some translucency in the tail feathers.  There's a pair of gorgeous wings that come with this character, and again they are dynamic and I will have to plug them into dForce and see if they work.

I'm trying for the super brain ache from V3 to GF8,vause being shot in the head and hitting a brickwass forehead first at a full run wasn't good enough.  Here's one of my old V3 Renders.

Ikyoto - Are you using Legacy UVs for Genesis 3: Special Edition - Victoria 3?  I don't go back to V3, but I'll assume that the procedure is pretty close to V4 to G8.  I've got mine nailed down and I'll list the steps for you.

    Let me know.

And - post a render of what you are trying to do (no matter how bad it looks).

    I did - up above.

Are you using the Legacy UV's to transfer the textures from V3 to G8?

There is no product to help you get V3 texture onto Genesis 8, you would have to use Genesis 3 together with this:

    https://www.daz3d.com/legacy-uvs-for-genesis-3-special-edition-victoria-3

The only way to get V3 to Genesis 8 is to use texture converter to first go from V3 to V4, and then you can use:
