Loading New Characters Resets Morphs of Others in Scene

So if I have a character in a scene, and I load another (either by merging the file or using the Content Library to load new characters) quite often the morphs on the character already in the scene will be reset or displaced. It used to only happen when I was using custom characters that I had created, but just today I loaded a commercial character (G3M Sasori) and when I loaded the base G3F into the scene, his morphs reset themselves. I have un- and re-installed DS with no change.

Has anyone seen this behavior before? Have any help?

  • Which version of DS is this - Help>About Daz Studio?

  • I have noticed something similar.  It only seems to happen if I have a/the character that is in the scene already selected.  If I clear the selection, so nothing is selected in the scene navigator, I don't get that problem.  I am using the 4.9.4.122 beta.

  • A Character Preset can either load a new figure or modify the selected figure (if it's the same basic figure - e.g. a Victoria 8 preset applied to any Genesis 8 Female figure). Usually you get a prompt asking which to do, but you can set DS to always do oen or the other. That shouldn't apply to other file types, however.

  • I'm using 4.10.0.123, and I'm not loading the preset into the character---a new character will load and they load properly, but the original character will change. Sometimes it seems like only a few facial morphs are affected, other times, body morphs are affected too.

  • If you are willing, please download the Public Beta for 4.11 and see if it is doing the same - if it is please report it via a Technical Support ticket https://www.daz3d.com/help/help-contact-us

To add to Richard's comment: If you decide to get the 4.11 beta, your existing 4.10 release version is not affected. Daz devised their system so that you can have a working copy of a public release and beta on your machine at the same time. They occupy different locations in your Program Files folder and personal settings folder.

If you have a previous version of the beta (like the other poster's 4.9), installing the 4.11 beta will overwrite it.

Wanted to mention this separately: I have noticed some freebie authors are including Daz data files with their own, and putting them into a different location than they should be in. This causes the same morph files to be repeated, and I think the duplicates can cause problems. I worked for an hour to remove and repair one such instance of this last night.

Since these files are in your runtime and not part of the D|S installation, uninstalling and reinstalling the program won't help in this case. I have no idea how to find instances of errant files, if they are indeed a problem. I discovered ,my issue because I decided I didn't like the character and removed it from the runtime. I noticed the extra Daz data files then. (In one instance a file that came with the freebie replaced a Daz file.)

Maybe Richard can comment on the issues involved with this sort of thing, but I know I've had the most problem with freebies, as they are not as well vetted for errors.

If that is happening it needs to be reported, as it's a clear breach of the EULA. It's also, as you say, likely to cuase issues for users.
