Which Generation is/was the best dressed?
Could be my imagination, but it seelms like Generation 8 (Female, at least) has a real fashion sense. A lot of the more interesting clothes seem to be aimed at adult style and ...(grace?)
I don't know what other word goes there, but I'm looking over my library and what's on offer in the store, it seems like along with Gen8 being a bit more mature, so seem to follow the clothing choices.
If I go back very far, it seems like anime was king and then fantasy and then sci-fi.
Anyone have opinions on where the clothing trends were/went/are going?
Fantasy has tended to look the same. It's still nature-based bikinis with gloves and boots shaped like leaves. Streaming strands of fabric...
Sci-fi is still sort skimpy pin-ups or gynoids of some sort.
Oh and demon doesn't count cause that's basically gothic-elf suits...
Buit I remember so many SKIRTS and short-dresses....
Now we're getting niver work clothes and pants...lots of pants........
And the lingerie seems to have dropped off....
Is it me?
Anyone else feel this?
Even the poses seemed to have slowed down on the pinup/sexy thing.

Probably because dForce made it easier for PAs to create longer flowy things. Personally I prefer the skimpier stuff and don't have a need for the more mature clothes (except for the mature characters I own) and prefer sexier poses but I have enough skimp to last a lifetime and they autofit the best and I can create/alter poses to make them sexier (and there are other stores...)
I absolutely adore all the bohemian, lacy, flowing clothes that are in fashion (at least in 3d) at the moment. It's perfectly fine for a large range of ages, in my opinion. And it's so bright, vivid and pretty.
It could be a combination of several factors playing a part in the aesthetic changes. dForce is a revolution in itself, and its wasted on short and tight garments. The most experienced and skilled creators are also older now than when they started out. Their tastes will have changed. And to be fair, "edgy" has been the thing to do for so long, it's become mainstream. People are getting tired of it.
Depends on what you mean by better dressed. In terms of sheer variety and selection, it's unlikely that any one generation will ever match V4 again, simply because gen 4 had 8 years as the top of the line figure set without any real competition while DAZ is only giving the new generations 2 years before galumphing into the next iteration of Genesis. That said, I think the Genesis 2 line has had the best selection of male clothing in the Genesis era, while dForce really has been a game changer for G3F and G8F,
I feel that Gensis 3 and 8 have the best. By that I mean quality. Even if other generations had more, the Genesis 3 & 8 clothing is better made.
Practically speaking I have the easiest time using Genesis & Genesis 2 clothing on Genesis 8. Genesis 3 clothing has been problematic on both Genesis 3 and Genesis 8. That's disappointing. However, it was Genesis 3 that finally had high quality professional clothing for firemen, police, white collar, construction wotkers so that makes up for it. In most of those though they also came with Genesis 2 fitted versions.
Being better made only helps if the type of clothing you want actually exists. I could probably get away with using nothing but Genesis 3 and 8 clothing for most of my renders if it wasn't for the conspicuous lack of clothing aimed at teen/tween males... which isn't so surprising when you realize that there were was only one young base male character between for the two generations combined. By comparison, G2M had two excellent teen male base figures, both of which got decent support.
I sometimes wonder if DAZ should get a fashion house sponsoring them. Like say garments designed by actual designers from Prada, H&M, Gucci, etc. A sort of extension of their real world shops :)
That would be great.
Since Genesis' arrival, every generation has been lacking in one genre of clothing or another. Genesis 8 seems to be on it's way to bucking this trend, but there are still areas that - presumably for marketing reasons - are on the sparse side.

I only use the males and I can’t say the quality has improved too much. There are vendors who make consistently high quality outfits regardless of the generation but I’d say reluctantly gen 3 and gen 8. Gen 3 has odd linebacker shoulders which doesn’t always translate to gen 8 so well.
What's this "clothes" thing I keep hearing about? :P
Variety of clothes has been there in varying degrees for all of them, clothes got a lot easier to use starting with Genesis 2. I liked the variety with Genesis 3 the best, though Genesis has the best off-beat clothing. I haven't done much with d-force yet, since I do comics and have to create a lot of pictures I don't like to take the time to do animations for each one.
My genesis 2-3 figures are always the "best dressed "as they are always wearing a custom bespoke, one off outfit that I created.

I would describe this as a great attitude and feeling of pride over your own ability to craft your (raw) materials.
I just don't know why "clothes" seems to be the area you really take pride in and not everything else surrounding your work.
I think it's a rabbit hole and every artist has an absolute right to decide how far they go down - for themselves.
My only problem is when that internal judgment and sensibility is cast upon others.
Back on topic. I never thought to put DForce on the chart. That is a great point and as a vendor, I would think that finding ways to take advantage of the new simulator would be paramount.
I mean, for all of us who've done sitting poses and battled those chair-morphs....DForce must be a blessing.
There are some PAs that I feel are true fashion designers in their own right already. Artists like Aeon Soul, Aave Nainen, Arki, Rarestone, and Badkitteh come to mind off the top of my head.

Actually the area of my work in which I take the Most pride is how far I have progressed in Adobe After effects and Visual effects General.. not "Dress making".
I am quite "proud" of the Space portal effect I created in this movie clip,
Partcularly how light is spilling through from the thresh hold as Galactus's Ship vanishes through the Aperture.
However this is a thread , soliciting opinions about Dressing our Characters.
Hence my previous comments.
a) Oh you had to post some Sci-fi clip you'd know I'd like! That's such a dirty tactic. I cry foul!
b) However this is a thread , soliciting opinions about Dressing our Characters.
Um, actually it's not. And I'd know since I'm the OP, lol It's actually about the clothing on offer from the Daz PAs and the trends and turns since, I guess A3 till now....
And started from how fashionable and modernly stylish I think all the Generation 8 clothes are. And further since you do Sci-Fi styled clothing - it's not really about modern fashion.....
So what would be the point of you jumping in saying "Whatever guys, I don't care cause I make my own clothes" ????
But you knew that.
And since I appreciate all your input - - okay and more...
When the heck are you going to start a thread in the Art Forum part and start sharing whatever you're up to?
Stop playing.
Well IMHO the, clothing on offer by the PA's today is better
than all previous generations in terms of quality and craftmanship.
it is only natural because, lets, face it... so are the Figures.
But still ..you have to admit that space portal effect was kinda cool
1. I like the beam-in effect,
2. I like the sick bay door opening and how the light streams in
3. The voicework is way better
4. The dramatic impact is top notch. And I like the slow pacing.
There. I admit all of it. You stinker.
