Time to bring up Powerpose again

I'm thankful DAZ finally decided to get with the program and put in an excellent Powerpose template for Genesis 8, but when Genesis 3 is loaded into a scene, it still defaults to a fairly useless generic template that doesn't include all of their body parts. Is there an official template for Genesis 3 (I assume not or it would be in here already) and are there any plans to add one?
Thanks in advance.

I doubt they'll put work into supporting a past generation figure at this point - but anything is possible. The Power Pose (and in particular the extremely good facial rigging for expressions) is why I didn't hesitate to move to Genesis 8. Being able to give much more natural and subtle expressions and being able to give the face some realistic asymmetry is alone worth the move, imo. I'm excited to see what they do with Genesis 9!
There's nothing to stop you or a third-party making a template for an older figure. The bare-bones template for starting from should be editable and savable. Right-click and select Edit Mode, right-click to adjust the template for the figure by adding, adjsting, or removing points, then click the Template Set button at the top and select Save As....
Oh I hope somebody does this....
Huh, I never knew you could edit the Powerpose template from within Studio. It would take some work to do it, but yeah, that's something for someone to do if they're bored. :) Thanks for that information Richard.
Divamakeup, nah I'm not particularly looking forward to having to buy all the exact same DAZ, Zev0, and Simon muscle morphs for the umpteenth time with the release of a new Genesis, not to mention clothing not fitting as expected, having to attempt to recreate our existing characters with whatever morphs we can find, and the possibility of old textures not being compatible. Genesis 9 better be a GIGANTIC upgrade, and I'm talking about more than being able to individually move around nasolabial muscles in Powerpose. :)
You will however nonetheless.
because support for G8 will eventually taper off
to nothing as it did for previous generations.
It is the way of things.
I've been mystified by DAZ's approach to supporting their own products for a long time. Power Pose seems to be a good tool. But why hasn't DAZ Supported it all along? Why don't they have support for previous Genesis versions? I'm quite forgetful and don't use Power Pose much for that reason. Then someone mentions it in a forum pose, and I look at it again. Is it really such a great tool?
SnowSultan, I totally sympathize with your lack of enthusiasm for new Generations of Genesis. I look over almost 20 years of my DAZ collection, and see unused assets from previous generations going back to the age of Michael 3 and Victoria 3. Now I'm trying to catch up with Genesis 8, and people are already talking about the next Genesis Generation. And why does DAZ Skip Genesis Generation numbers?
Wolf359: We all will, but just like with G8, I'll be putting it off as long as possible unless it brings something really exciting and new to the table. I'm just now starting to consider transitioning into using Genesis 8, and that's primarily because of the content being made for it (particularly dForce cloth). Still waiting for big sales on the morphs I don't have yet though.
Ron: You probably answered your own question about why DAZ didn't bother with Powerpose for so long; not many people bother with it so it's low on their priorities list. It actually is a good tool if you don't want to go searching through dials when posing your figure - provided you're careful when using it and view your figure from multiple angles simultaneously so you can move body parts correctly.
I've been in 3D since Poser 1 (although we pretty much all used the first three for drawing references, as it wasn't good for much else) and a part of the online 3D community since 1999. I have so much content that I never used that it's painful to look at my purchase history. Now I'm way too frugal and probably miss out on a lot of good stuff because I want to have an image in mind before I buy anything.
edit: If I remember correctly, DAZ jumped from Genesis 3 to Genesis 8 to match up with their versions of Michael and Victoria, which were at 7 but used Genesis 3 as a base. Now they'll match; Genesis 8 has Victoria and Michael 8.
SnowSultan, yes, I've seen your name mentioned since the early days. We have much in common. I, too, got into the Poser online communities in 1999, when I got married, at age 49. I bought Poser v1 back around 1996(?!) and never learned how to use it. I started using Poser 4 and found the online communities at the same time.
Haha, yeah there are still a lot of us old-timers around. I remember you, Ikyoto, and PhilC specifically being around in those days too, but I've forgotten a lot of the others. I keep thinking Wolf359 might actually have been around under a different name - were you the one who made that hairy P4 Dork texture that was pretty much the best male texture at the time? It's a shame that most of the trailblazing Japanese artists seem to have moved on to other things though.
I bet I'm the only Perpetual Newbie in the bunch of Old Timers! Have a wonderful day!
It's been really useful for me when fine tuning hand poses and such while using G8. One of the things that slows down the process of posing is hunting and pecking for the right bone to pose, either in the viewport or the scene tab. When you use PowerPose, however, it automatically selects the bone/s for you when you click the dot you want to manipulate. So, if you want to bend all the bone's in the left index finger at the same time, just click the dot for that. I find it much faster with complicated poses.
Quasar, thanks for sharing that tip.
Oh, I wanted to say again, how much I appreciate Floyd 8, Mabel 8, the other old characters for Genesis 8, in addition to all the supporting products. I've wanted to portray a world of older people for many years. We never had many old people characters until Floyd 8 and friends arrived. Thanks, DAZ!
Do a "find in page" for "PowerPose" on http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/software/dazstudio/4/change_log_4_9_4_122 and http://docs.daz3d.com/doku.php/public/software/dazstudio/4/change_log_4_10_0_123 and you'll see that there was quite a bit of work put into rewriting/extending PowerPose in the last couple of General Release cycles.
PowerPose needed attention; basically, it needed to be rewritten so that it could work with advancements made in figure technology since the tool was first written and so that features could be added. It received that attention during the lead up to Genesis 8.
Chohole, thanks for the info! Oh, Richard, thank you for breaking this part of the conversation into its own thread. It's a good idea to maybe help attract some more attention to Power Pose. Sorry, I had a late night, and am still a bit fuzzy!
