    A  Blender plugin should be able to be written that directly reads MDL materials from a DAZ Studio duf file for example and converts it to one of Blender's formats, maybe Thomas Larsson would have fun doing that. So then a plugin for Blender where you can create a material that is saved in Blender's formats and MDL exchange format simultaneously would be nice & then exchange between between Blender & DAZ Studio & Unity & so on would be nice & easy.

    ...native MDL materials for Carrara would be nice as Octane supports the programme.

  • That is really great news. More open 3D industry standards is good for everybody.
    What would be even more amazing is if someone would create a DAZ DS plugin that would import & export Pixar's Open Source USD Universal Scene Description format  so  folks could have easy integration among the different 3D tools  used in the production workflow.
    Nvidia has said they are going to support USD. Hopefully DAZ3D will eventually do so too.
