A Character for BOTH G3F and G8F?

FauvistFauvist Posts: 2,219

If a character is advertised as being for both figures - G3F and G8F - what does that mean?  Are all the morphs and textures on both figures freely interchangable?  Or are you buying togther, in effct, two sepatrate products - morphs and textures for G3F, AND morphs and textures for G8F?

Thanks!

I think it means the textures are for both and are the same, but they includes both G3F morphs and G8F morphs.  Might because they used skin builder 3 which must be for a G3F character but textures could be used on G8F,  or they wanted to be nice and let you choose between G3F or G8F without costing you more or having to buy two products.

  • Is there a morph converter to turn a G3 female charecter into G8 ??  I have a few G3 females charecters that I really like that I would like G8 versions of.

...what about a conversion tool that does the opposite?

For the products I have that are for G3F and G8F, each one has their own head/body INJ, and depending on the vendor, INJ/REM for nails, nipples, etc. The G8F will have the lash options as well. Then each one has their own folders for materials.  Could just be Iray, or the ones I have are both Iray and 3DL.  So it is is a 2fer in a sense that you're getting 2 Head/Body INJ/REM if that's what you were asking.

Easiest way to answer this is:

A character that is for G3F works for G3F.

A charcter that is for G8F works for G8F.

A character that states both, must work for both.

G8F eyelashes are a separate figure, so should have an extra preset to apply the correct maps to it.

You are buying two separate products.

G3 and G8 morphs are not interchangeable.

G3 and G8 textures are not meant to be interchangeable, but you can always try and see what comes out.

For the most part they are with only slight differences which is why in many cases you get products that say they are for GF3 and GF8

As someone who has transfered, tens if not hundreds of G3 to G8, they are transferable; plus, Daz states that Genesis 8 is the more backward compatible yet, not sure where but I have seen it; (not a direct quote btw).

Skin Textures with G3 Default UVs will always transfer to G8; transfer other G3 UVs internally using the tools available in Studio to G3 Default, then they too transfer.

Morphs take a little work but can be transferred, and relatively painlessly considering how simlar the two meshes are. Their usability can depend on how many support morhps they had, as these won't be availble. I've had reasonable success - but have not tried extreme morph shapes.

Well, G8F has that separate eyelash folder if you drop down the folder hierarchy in the Scene tab under G8F.  I have to have it selected when I apply different lashes when vendors include options in a pack.  At least that's how it works for me.

What I really want is to use is Darcie for The Girl 8 on the G3F figure.  It's really expensive for Darcie and Girl 8 - like $50.  I don't want to buy them if there's no way to use them on the Genesis 3 Female figure.  https://www.daz3d.com/cb-darcie-for-the-girl-8

You can use the Darcie textures on GF3 no problem, but not the morph since there is no safe, commercial way to transfer morphs with G8. On DA, Sickleyield has a tutorial you could try that might be able to transfer the morph, but no guarantees
