I just so happen to have 3 RTX Titans laying around right now, and a RTX 2080 TI. So I thought I might spin up Daz 11 Beta and throw a RTX Titan into my rig and see the difference. First thing I noticed is that Daz did not use the GPU at all. It will only render on my CPU. So I threw my GTX 1080 TI back in, and kept the RTX Titan in, and Daz still would not use either GPU. Took the titan out, and boom, Daz worked fine on the GTX 1080 TI as it always has. Not sure what is going on here, but it would be nice to run two NVLINK RTX Titans for Daz. Currently using them for deep learning, and they are working great for that.

I have one Titan RTX which works as expected in the current DS Beta with current Nvidia drivers (see here for some benchmarks.) Are you sure you have everything up to date?

    ETA:

Check out this benchmarking quide I put together. I admit it's very extensive. But with a setup like yours it should be a relative breeze to perform an entire battery of tests which would be very helpful to others curious about RTX performance as DS support develops.

..wait, 3 RTX Titans? I could build one heck of a workstation for that.

I feel fortunate to have a single Titan X.

Thanks for the benchmark, as soon as I can fix my issue I will run it. I reinstalled my drivers and Daz today, but no luck. This is the error I am getting:

If anyone has any ideas I'm all ears. Running the latest Daz 4.11 Pro Public Build

First, try rendering a different scene (perhaps one of the test scenes from the Benchmarking thread - assuming this wasn't already one of them...) Just from eyeballing your log this looks alot like cases I've seen of a DS Beta arbitrarily not liking scene element in conjunction with a particular piece of rendering hardware (they don't call it beta software for nothing.)

Second, try totally removing/reinstalling current Nvidia drivers (use the DDU freeware utility.) This also looks like it could be because of driver corruption stemming from a previous version not having gotten properly upgraded (something which happens surprisingly often.)

Third, you mentioned you've been using these cards for deep learning. Could be that some persistent hardware/software config seeing from that (eg. "TCC" driver mode activation) isn't sitting nice with Iray's current expectations for a render compatible card. Turing compatibility in DS Beta right only extends so far as these cards logically resemble their Volta predecessors (the most recent Iray GPU architecture update was only for Volta.)

Also, this is not really news, but did you guys know that eBay is offering various discounts on everything they sell? These discounts apply to GPUs, too, even used auctions. I just tried it to confirm. The current coupon is 15% off. So a $565 1080ti will drop to $480, that is a $85 discount with that coupon. The coupon has a cap at $100, so no, you can't go gang busters on a 2080ti, but you can get $100 off one if you shoot for it. These types of coupons that apply to everything might just be the best way to find certain GPUs on sale that might otherwise not happen. The 2080ti has not had any sales of any kind, and in fact its price has increased about $100 since its launch. The current 15% off deal lasts until the 27th I think.

This is something I have been wondering about. I was thinking as new technology gets released, people will upgrade and the price of 1080Ti cards will drop on eBay later this year. However, what concerns me about this idea is that a lot of these could be crypto mining cards and I have read that people over clock these and otherwise beat the heck out of these cards.  Now as a hobbyist Daz Studioer my card would relatively lightly used. Still I would be interested what people think of this idea.

Hmm... I installed DAZ Studio 11.1 beta yesterday to use with my new RTX 2080. It's working fine even combined-rendering with my GTX 1080.

Yeah, a large disposable income would be nice to have so I could get one of these. Hopefully, the price for a card with 24GB of RAM will become more affordable in the next generation or two.

You mean, my son.... or grandson....... :)

Thanks for the benchmark, as soon as I can fix my issue I will run it. I reinstalled my drivers and Daz today, but no luck. This is the error I am getting:

So I threw the card into one oy my linux deep learning servers, the server reported a bad memory modul on the card. I grab one of my other RTX Titans and it worked great in Daz. Nvidia is replacing the gpu. I guess I am down to two Titans for a week crying... I will run the benchmark on 1 titan, then on 2, then on 2 with sli and post the results here. So far it is running very nicly.

  • It's clear that the RTX cards work with DAZ Studio 4.11 Public Beta, but do they work with the current 4.10 Release? I'm not interested in betas, just the release code. But it's not clear if 4.10 works with an RTX 2060 today, just slower than with 4.11, or if it doesn't work at all with 4.10, only 4.11.

Thanks for your quick response. That's disappointing, though. I need something to replace a GTX 460 -- 1 GB is NOT enough for Iray! -- and the RTX 2060 looked good. If it won't work, though, I guess I'll have to go GTX 10xx. Anybody have any idea when 4.11 might go gold? It'd be worth the wait if it's not too long.

4.11.0.236 Public Beta has been very reliable for me. You can install the 4.11 beta and run it in parallel with 4.10, so it doesn't destroy your working 4.10.

I appreciate your testimonial. I read somewhere in the forums that 4.11 renders faster, so I thought I'd try to do some benchmarks with my existing GTX 460 -- it doesn't render with the GPU at all. In the Beta thread, there was some discussion about the latest nVidia 418.81 driver (2019-02-04) causing this kind of problem for RTX cards, but I don't think that's the case for me, since my driver was 388.13 (2017-10-30). I updated to the latest for the 460, 391.35 (2018-03-27), but still no dice. If I select only the GPU for Iray, it comes back in seconds with a black screen render. The log shows:

2019-02-07 19:09:52.961 WARNING: ..\..\..\..\..\src\pluginsource\DzIrayRender\dzneuraymgr.cpp(304): Iray WARNING - module:category(IRAY:RENDER):   1.0   IRAY   rend warn : GPU 1 (GeForce GTX 460) with CUDA compute capability 2.1 cannot be used by iray photoreal.

    2019-02-07 19:09:52.966 NVidia Iray GPUs:
    2019-02-07 19:09:52.966  GPU: 1 - GeForce GTX 460
    2019-02-07 19:09:52.966  Memory Size: 1023.6 MB
    2019-02-07 19:09:52.966  Clock Rate: 1430000 KH
    2019-02-07 19:09:52.966  Multi Processor Count: 7
    2019-02-07 19:09:52.966  CUDA Compute Capability: 2.1

That looks like photoreal support for my poor old 460 has been removed from the Beta, which makes it very difficult for me to evaluate. I can get my hands on a GTX 750, so I'll try that before giving up on it, but so far I'm not filled with confidence.

GTX 460 uses the old Fermi Architecture. Support for Fermi was removed from the version of Iray used in 4.11. Here is the 4.11 Beta post that explains it.

Thanks for the info. Sounds like I'll need to upgrade before 4.11 goes gold, if I want to use Iray. The clock is ticking toward obsolescence faster than I thought.

...crikey the exchange rate is a killer.  At the current exchange rate, 2,499 .99 USD would come to  3,319.86 CDN.  Is that extra 180 CDN due to a VAT?

I've never really thought about it but we have so many taxes on most things up here in Canada, electronics and their components have added taxes so, yea, it sucks!

Just as an update for you all:

We got an 2080RTX in the office today and gave it a try on the latest Daz Studio public beta and the latest drivers from Nvidia.

Good news is that it works right out of the box. Currently the performance is pretty good but we don't believe that the hardware raytracing functionality has been enabled in the currently shipping version of Iray.

In the attached test scene, with the 2080RTX in a older computer (compared to the machine with the 980Ti) here is what we found:

    980Ti: 10 minutes and 30 seconds

    2080RTX: 6 minutes and 3 seconds.

I wasn't able to test with a 1080 or 1080Ti machine today but hopefully the attached scene file (which can be rendered with only free assets you get when you sign up on our site) will let you all judge for yourself.

2 x GTX 1070: 6 minutes and 4 seconds -----> WTF ?? It the same as a single RTX 2080 !!!!! What will it be when daz will decide to activate RTX acceleration ?!! OMG !!!
