Materials for Male Gen 8 Child

I'm trying to do a story for my son, who is 4, and I've got a figure based on the G8 male but all the materials are for adults---my son doesn't have chest hair and stubble yet. Are there techniques or products that have materials for this? Thanks in advance!

Textures suitable for young boys are always a problem. And we're early for getting the necessary resources. Even though we're already half way through the antcipated development cycle for G8. This is where the lag between male and female content really hurts.

There are a number of child skins for G3M. By Zev0 here, and Angel Wings has a young boy character over on Rendo. I think SF-Design did a pack for boys for G8M but that might have been only morphs. Check though. There may have been skins too. The teen Ryan skins might do as well, but again, G3.

Now I'm *told* that you can use G3 skins on G8. I don't know what hoops you need to jump through, or whether you need an add-on utility to do it.

There is a UV swap utility in the store for G8. There *are* G8F child skins. A UV swap would make those usable. Again I reccomend Angel Wings over on Rendo. She's done a number of little girl skins, which are properly *child* skins, not things with overly groomed eyebrows or eyeliner. And the proper child skin texture.

If you aren't aiming for photorealism, there are Toon skins. Those aren't usually lumbered with body or facial hair, and we did just get a Toon boy in the store for G8M.

But, yeah. You'll have to hunt.

ETA: just checked, both Zev0's Growing up and SF-Design's Boys for G8M have skins.

Products... there are a number of Genesis 3 skins, which would work on Genesis 8.

Growing Up Skins from Raiya/Zev0 https://www.daz3d.com/growing-up-skin-bundle-for-genesis-3

    Lola's Son https://www.daz3d.com/lola-s-son-for-genesis-3-male

    Genesis 8?

More toony figures like Potono https://www.daz3d.com/potono-for-genesis-8-male

Your best bet will probably to buy one of the younger characters with a skin type you like. There are a few in the store.

Connor HD for Genesis 8 Male  -  Realistic
Jesse for Genesis 8 Male  -  Realistic
Pace Character, Hair, and Expressions for Genesis 8 Male  -  Toon

I don't think we've had very many kids for Genesis 8 yet. The only teen or younger bundles I remember seeing so far are for the girls. I do hope we get some younger males soon.

There were several more kid options for Genesis 7 because it's been around longer. Not only were there lots of teens and younger kids with skin material without body and facial hair, there was Zev0's Skin Builder for Genesis 7 Females. Materials generated in there can be used with Genesis 7 Males with the proper swap utilities. In fact, a lot of us who do preteen male characters have used female skins without makeup.

I'm pretty sure you do need a UV swap utility to do that. It's been a while and I have them all. With these, you can use any female skin and put it on a male figure. There is one for G3 and G8:

    Genesis 8 UV Swap
    Genesis 7 UV Swap

I have not seen any Material Resources for younger males for Genesis 8 yet. There could be some around. I just haven't seen them yet.

Hopefully, others will pop in with more suggestions.

  • Thanks for all the information. Although, it really doesn't look like Zev0's Growing up and SF-Design's Boys for G8M have skins, just shaping morphs (which I'm sure are very good). I'll try the suggestions---cheers!

If there is no stubble, bodyhair, or unusual eyebrows many of the skins made for adults work ok. I would look at FW art. Many skins are pretty generic. If the face looks okay, then it should work fine.

zev0 does have a 'growing up skin for genesis 3 males' product here.  it'll work with genesis 8 figures just fine.

    good luck!

Yes, I forgot about that one. It should work on G8 males. It's a great skin.

If you have the crossover product, some female skins look pretty good on boys; you might have to dull lip glossiness.  Here is a G3M boy with Olympia 7 skin

I'm having some fairly decent success with https://www.daz3d.com/fwsa-zander-hd-for-michael-8 - the no-brow, clean-cut version's doing pretty well, with some tinkering using Altern8 and the Growing Up morph kit from Zev0.

I know others have said you can apply G3M skins, but to clarify/reassure - all you have to do is apply it like you would for G3M.  (going the other way, you have to manually copy and paste the skin maps over, because of the separate eyelashes.)
